Looks great. Netflix has a certain knack for commisioning interesting projects I tend to care about.

Jim Carrey is messed up mentally. I seriously wonder if "Man On The Moon" created a psychological breakdown from which he will never recover.

To me, that video about him as a painter is dripping with disingenuousness and the smell of someone who wants so badly to be taken seriously. I'm not much impressed by his artwork either, but to each his own.

While I recognize his talent, he has always been a bit too over the top for me.......too forced and exaggerated.

I've never heard of a successful painter needing to prove their seriousness by trying to be an actor on the side.

    Most celebrity painting/art is embarrassing.

I can see that. While I am by no means a Jim Carey hater, I feel he's one of those actors where you have to know how to utilize him or he'll get grating very fast

I'm in the same boat as those who prefer his more toned-down/dramatic roles, like Truman Show and especially Eternal Sunshine..., which is one of my favorite movies. I've never been a huge fan of his flat-out comedies.

I like the films "Man on the Moon" and "Eternal Sunshine". I'd like them even more if Jim Carrey weren't in them. Not a fan. But I am interested in seeing this doc, mostly because I like Kaufman.

  11. I really liked him in The Grinch. I wasn't even paying real attention to it when I realized how well Carrey acted. Before that I wasn't a fan.

I just found this youtube video. According to Johnny Carson's introduction, this is Jim Carrey's first appearance on American television. He is hysterically funny doing a spastic Elvis Presley impersonation:

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

loved Jim, but I think he went insane...the sh** that spews out of his hole is unreal...I'll stick with the Jim of long ago when he was funny and creative...talk about burn and crash...

Before Jim Carrey made any features, he was in a dramatic role in a FOX TV movie about alcoholism. He wasn’t the lead in the movie but he seriously has acting chops. Only later did I realized that was Jim Carrey.

I thought he had a potential franchise that catered to his strengths with A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, but apparently the studio was too slow on the re-load button.

If you watch this terrific children's film, check out the deleted scenes featuring ad-libbed bits of Carrey and his theater troupe.

The whole appearance from '83, he had the program eating out of his hand that night!

Yeah, very good point. I love his movies, including 2009's "A Christmas Carol", which does fit in with the serious part.

He was great in "Peggy Sue Got Married". In our high school we had a guy just like the character he played. Perfect flat-top haircut, dislocating his shoulder at will, etc, etc, etc.

His new movie, the drama Dark Crimes, has a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
