It's pretty easy to envisage a more comprehensive deluxe set than this:
    Disc One: Album remaster
Disc Two: ALL the single versions and b-sides from the period.
I get nine original single tracks: Boy with the Thorn (original single mix) / Rubber Ring / Asleep (these two segued as God and Johnny Marr intended) / Money Changes Everything / Unloveable / Panic / The Draize Train / Ask (original single version) / Golden Lights
Plus three subsequent variants: Ask (album version) / The Queen Is Dead (edit) / Boy with the Thorn (demo mix)
Disc Three: Demos and Session Outtakes - we know there are more of these. The alternate 'Rubber Ring' that was just released, for a start.
Disc Four: Complete live set from 1986
    Disc Five: DVD

I'm delighted to get any unreleased Smiths material at this point, but this is a pretty timid deluxe edition by any standards.

I'm guessing the 3rd CD will be a live show. Or maybe BBC sessions? Amazon UK, USA, and Canada are all listing this as "3CD+DVD" now.

    I'll take that!

There is an awful lot of TV footage from this period that would be great to have in good quality.

I've got the Germany "Rockpalast" show on DVD. and a show from Madrid Spain, both of which are excellent quality.

Your mind has a capacity for detail that floors me. You should be handling these reissues SoM!

according to UK iTunes, it looks like the So This Is America (first US date on the "Queen Is Dead" tour) show:

whoa...was at that show. Actually Mansfield, MA. nowhere as good as they were on Meat is Murder tour but holy crap...that's cool. Wonder if the show was filmed...I vaguely remember cameras there.

Re. the lyrics to "Paint A Vulgar Picture" they are about a record company capitalizing on a "dead star". I don't think they relate to artists reissuing their own work.

Looks like they did quite a lot of what you wanted, no singles disc and not every possible outtake excepted.

The DVD sounds pretty useless though. I'm only really bothered about getting the 2xCD edition, never cared much for live albums and hi-res.

There's only two TV appearances to be honest. The Whistle Test and the Tube, 4 songs in total.

Here's info I found about the track:

Produced by Morrissey and Marr, engineered by Stephen Street at RAK Studios, London,
August/September 1985 (The Boy With The Thorn In His Side sessions).
An early monitor mix, containing elements of the final track.

I used to have the So This Is America vinyl bootleg but I sold it a long time ago, as I recall the sound quality was terrible. Always assumed it was an audience tape, or was it soundboard?

The "demo" of The Boy With The Thorn In His Side on that RSD single was almost identical to the album version, just a drum fill intro was the only obvious difference. I hope the other demos are a bit more different to that one
