A kind friend in the UK bought the '99 Fontana CD for me. It's really good, lots of dynamics, sounds for all intents and purposes like a flat dub of the US mono master tape.

Looks like the Repertoire Cd used most of the 99 Cd as their source for the album too! (With nasty added compression and NR)

A good bit of advice would also be to NOT buy the 2015 French mini-LP. It's worse than the Repertoire!

Probably not. It wasn't recorded well to begin with.

Okay, here's a quick guide for getting the best Troggs on CD (60s stuff up to Jan 69):

    The UK albums:

From Nowhere + Trogglodynamite - BGO 2-fer (both mono)
Cellophane + Mixed Bag - BGO 2-fer (stereo & mono respectively)

    The singles:

Archeology (1966-1976) - Rhino (only good source for many tracks)
The EP Collection - See For Miles (for "You're Lyin", only good source on CD)
Wild Thing - 1999 French Fontana CD (for "Your Love", only good source on CD)
Trogglodynamite - 2003 Repertoire (for "Sweet Madeline", only source on CD)
Hit Single Anthology - Fontana (for "As I Ride By", which is a needledrop)

    TO AVOID:

Repertoire CDs - yes, they have later solo tracks and 70s bonus tracks, but the albums themselves are all sourced from older CDs and sound terrible, way too compressed, harsh and NR'd

2015 French "Wild Thing" mini LP - even worse than the Reps!

Fontana "Hit Single Anthology" CD - fake stereo, needledrops, poor sources. Really badly done. But it has an exclusive track.

Any cheapo comps - will either be re-recorded versions or fake stereo or needledrops.

I bought it and the sound is very bad, original versions but I guess the source is the problem....

    Britains most underrated band.
Just got Troggs The Vintage Years ~ Sire twofer LPs. Powerful sound!!!

Feels Like A Woman ....28 discotheque dance classics on this 4 sided double album. Compiled by the late great Greg Shaw. Definitely recommended if you see it on your travels.

The Polygram 2-CD anthology Archeology, with the bonus third CD of the legendary ("fairy dust") Troogs Tape, is also terrific. I've often wondered if the group's fortunes would have changed for the better, had the legal tug of war between Fontana and Atco that resulted in the first album coming out on both labels gone Atco's way.

I recently saw a short doc on youtube in which Reg (I think) admitted they hadn't even done acid when they came up with that.

Seen them support Blondie and they still had it. Simple, direct hits ..that never date.

The Troggs rule. I think of the Troggs and the Equals as kinda similar, in that they had tons of great songs (way more than the one or two most know); very distinctive frontmen; and a driving, bubblegum-like sound. The Troggs dipped their collective toe into lysergic water a little, unlike Eddy Grant and co. I derive much enjoyment from both bands.

I Can’t Control Myself. Wow. Top ten rock and roll song for me. Driving, fun(ny), WAY suggestive for ’66, great intro, perfect middle eight, all-time scream at the end. What more could one want?

From Home, Cousin Jane, I JUST SING, Purple Shades, Seventeen, Strange Movies, 66-5-4-3-2-1. . .Many songwriters in the garage-punk idiom would’ve gladly sacrificed a nut to have come up with any of these, let alone all of them, and more. Reg, we genuflect.

Speaking of the Troggs, I've been trying to figure out when exactly Richard Moore played with the band. 70s? 80s? Does anybody know? Thanks.

Yay the Troggs I like the sound on the DJM 1st album comp thing here: The Troggs - From Nowhere »

    my favourite track of all:

And here's a Troggs "Heavy Stuff" compilation I'm in the process of putting together which along with certain tracks from the 1st album (you know which ones) and 66-5-4-3-2-1 will make an amazing car cd. I think all the official Troggs comps are slightly ruined by their lighter & more twee tracks:

    Lover
    The Raver
    Evil Woman
    Lost Girl
    I'm On fire
    Her Emotion
    Say Darlin'
    Come Now
Our Love will still be there
    Your Love
    Mona
I Want You To Come Into My Life
    Purple Shades

Unfortunately the sound on that CD is somewhat rechanneled stereo. Very subtle, but also a bit phasey so you can't exactly fold it down to true mono, or even choose one channel.

The Troggs were a great band. "With a Girl Like You" is a great song. "Love Is All Around" is beautiful. "I Just Sing" is great. I like the "Raver" a lot. They had a great hard rocking sound.
