Just doing a comparison of the US and later Eu/UK releases here. Some definite differences from what I can see/hear:

    - both cuts, imho, seem quite low in volume, although the eu/uk is slightly louder and perhaps a bit more dynamic?

    - On the minus side for eu/uk, they’re definitely different cuts, wth the earlier US making better use of the vinyl surface (for instance, the runout groove on eu/uk is much wider on side 3 than US cut)

    - the eu/uk doesn’t suffer from the ‘tight’ spindle hole issues as the US

    - both vinyl cuts have a slight distortion to certain tracks, noticeable on end of side 1- Andy’s chest, although this could be the usual side end issues with vinyl or just the masters (surely no one buys VU for the fidelity of the recordings!)

Much as I’m happy to have the unfutzed versions of the 1969 tracks (and really welcome the slight extensions of certain tracks over the VU and previous box versions) , I’m thinking they’re still not the definitive versions but I’m glad they’re available outside of the latest box set, otherwise I’d probably have had to buy it just to make sure I wasn’t short changed with the initial release! Regardless, as a comp of the ‘69 tracks I really like it.

My particular fave right now is ‘Ocean’ orig mix followed by ‘Rock & Roll’. Anyone else have a favourite track from this particular release?

Overall, I think I'm glad I waited for the EU release. Thank-you for the detailed run-down. :)

    Good comparison.
The album faded cover looks the same. No luck with the EU MP3 download.

What’s the issue with tight spindle holes? It’s the easiest thing in the world to fix - just grab a pen.

Thanks for looking up, johnnybrum ;)

yes, there is... US Verve (V-5032) from 1967 was a mono release and there was also a reissue from Sundazed in 2012 which had the mono version.

I thought it was a dedicated mix, but really not sure about it - could be a fold-down as well.
Anyway this new one is neither :(

Bought the european 1969 2LP album and the Chelsea Girl reissue aswell - glad to tell you guys that both sound really, really good! Vinyl is flat, centered and noise-free. No rice crispies, yay! My 4MWB edition of Chelsea Girl can jump in the garbage now, and the new 1969 set is a keeper either way. Happy customer, can recommend both releases!
