Critic Ellen Willis picked it as her desert island disc in Stranded. It just plays really great. A nifty lineup and a cool sleeve. And the first greatest hits for them.

Man... when I bought this on CD in 1987, I thought I would never, ever have to purchase this album ever again!

You need to buy a new copy every five years or so...the old ones "go bad". Don't ask me how.

I've seen this in discographies -- odd choice for a modern reissue especially with so many other recent/in-print VU compilations, single disc or otherwise.

But if nothing else, I'll add the playlist to iTunes. ;)

When the 6 disc VU & Nico came out I waited and I got it for $33 new from Amazon wharehouse. I think I'll do the same for this one!

is this one coming with a book and other knickknacks? I wouldn't have minded shelling out $33 or even a little more for the VU & Nico set; I just literally didn't want a big book etc. to deal with as clutter, so I just got the 2-cd set.

Uh, he won't be, Lou's estate will be in control.

On the contrary, the best homage to Lou is supporting the works he did and nothing wrong in not being exploited by over priced product.
    Lou was no shmuck either..

It's equal shares as sorted out by Chris decades ago. I think both Moe and Laurie will defer to Cale. Cale is in charge of Nico's estate. Cale has consistently said how distasteful the cult of the VU is for over 40 years and is getting more and more vocal about how the sound of the remaining tapes are deteriorating.

My recollection is that the legal deal was for control to be in the hands "of the surviving members". I don't think Laurie will inherit control the way Yoko did, although she'll get the rights to all of Lou's solo work.

I think Cale will continue to support VU releases, if only for the sake of Mo's income.

What's Doug's stake in the VU business/reissues legacy? When it comes to a 3rd Album reissue, I hope he's involved.

And if you combine it with the material from PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE and the LIVE AT MAX'S KANSAS CITY: DE, you have the raw material for a stealth Super Deluxe Edition. I don't see WB/Rhino actually releasing such a set, but nothing should stop fans from compiling their own version. Bonus points for dipping into your bootleg collection to round it out.
