    Ick. Why?

Maybe I should elaborate - I'm all for compilations, but why market "The Very Best Of Sting & The Police?" They're two separate entities, and they both have their own compilations. Why not keep "Every Breath You Take: The Classics" and "Fields Of Gold" and call it good?

Besides, didn't they already release "The Very Best Of Sting & The Police" in 1997? Why are they doing it again?

Don't me wrong, I love both The Police & Sting, but how many compilations do we need?

I guess with each new compilation, they'll keep adding more compression and eq to keep things fresh!!

semms to me that the police are coming dangerously close to "doors territory". that is, they have more greatest hits/best of's that regular studio albums.

  5. This CD has been out in the UK/Europe since early in 2002. If we're talking about the same album and who knows what the North American wing of A&M will be doing, it was released to celebrate Sting's "Outstanding Contribution to Music" award he won at the Brit awards 2002.

The compilation from 1997 has been updated with Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot, Russians and Roxanne 97 being replaced by Brand New Day, Desert Rose and So Lonely. On Febuary 24th 2002 the re-released Very Best Of collection went straight to number 1 in the UK album chart.

I really don't consider the two Sting/Police compilations true Police compilations. They're more like mix CDs to me. But there aren't too many Police compilations.

Every Breath You Take: The Singles (Out-of-print)
    Greatest Hits (Europe only)
    Message In A Box
Every Breath You Take: The Classics

The Very Best Of Sting & The Police (1997)
The Very Best Of Sting & The Police (2002)

In a semi-related subject changer, I've actually made my own Police compilation, which I think outweighs everything currently available. The source for the songs are the 1995 remastered A&M CDs.

    The Best Of The Police

    1. Roxanne
    2. Masoko Tanga
    3. Can't Stand Losing You
    4. So Lonely
    5. Message In A Bottle
    6. Regatta de Blanc
    7. Walking On The Moon
    8. The Bed's Too Big Without You
    9. Don't Stand So Close To Me
    10. When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around
    11. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
    12. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
    13. Invisible Sun
    14. Rehumanize Yourself
    15. Spirits In The Material World
    16. Every Breath You Take
    17. King Of Pain
    18. Wrapped Around Your Finger
    19. Synchronicity II

These compilations seriously downplay Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers' vitality to The Police. It's just ridiculous. A&M or whomever is in charge of these discs seriously has a bad case of Frontman Syndrome. I wonder how Copeland and Summers feel about this.

Coming soon from Columbia Records - The Very Best Of The Joe Perry Project & Aerosmith!

The weirdest compilation of this type that I've seen was a single disc covering David Johansen's entire career. It had 6 New York Dolls tracks, 6 from David Jo's solo career, and 6 from his Buster Poindexter period. How bizarre to have "Personality Crisis" and "Hot Hot Hot" sharing disc space!

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I think it's an insult to Andy Sommers and Stewart Copeland to continue to make Sting the focus and frontman of the Police. Sting may have been the lead singer, but he was only one of the trio.

Sting has put out enough solo stuff to warrant his own collection, and he already has one!
