Round 5 is over, and I'm A Man is out. Down to the final 3. 1 day to vote out 1 song.
None of these songs is weak.
The truth is, these three Chicago Transit Authority tracks are among my top 10 favourite Chicago songs ever.
Good morning. A very, very close race- it' really anyone's ballgame here. Time to vote an sve your favorite.
Ok, you're to a point where I know all three--I vote off "Does Anyone Know..."
Still bummed Introduction was ousted -- voted off Questions 67 & 68. Beginnings should win this.
Questions for me although it was a tough call. Last round will be really hard.
I voted for Questions- Beginnings is clearly the best!
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
At almost 8 minutes, the album version of Beginnings goes on too long for me. Of course, the single version (reached #7 in 1971 on Billboard's Hot 100 with Colour My World as the B-side) is too short at 2:45!
Questions 67 & 68
When I voted this morning, I'd forgotten about how long the album track was; I think I had the single edit in mind when I decided to vote for "...Time It Is."
Yeah, me too! I think listening to Introduction again before the vote would have changed some minds about ousting it. Kath's singing and guitar playing is killer! Cetera, Seraphine and the horn section are at the top of their game on that track.
Having said that I think Questions is the best track of the remaining songs. The outro on Beginnings is waaaaaay too long and I always thought the lyrics on Does Anybody.... were a bit trite.
one vote separating the bottom 2 at this time.
As far as the extended jam at the end of Beginings, that was the idea of producer James William Guercio. As you can hear in what should have been the last minute of the song, the percussion fades into the song for a nice sound. But Guercio decided to keep the percussion going, and told Chicago to keep going long after what would have covered the fade-out. I guess he liked the raw energy in that percussion jam. This was what made Chicago in the early albums (up though V) so different than the average rock or pop band- the long solos or improvised jams on these songs. Maybe that's why I like Liberation as much as I do- it has a very large amount of improv in that song- just listen to any live version you might find (like on Wolfgang's vault for instance). Liberation is never the same any time they play it. It can be 5 minutes to over 20 minutes long. It changed almost each time they played it.
I relunctly picked Does Anyone Know What Time It Is?, mainly due to the intro.
3 hrs to go, and 1 vote separating getting voted out and advancing to the final. Man this is gonna go down to the wire...
30 minutes, and it's a tie. In case of a tie, they will both be eliminated, and we will have a winner today.
