There is no escape as the previous songs are trapped under ey-ey-ice

    I'm sorry.

DQ: Where do you rank this in Metallica's discography?

I rank RtL as Metallica’s best album overall. It shows the band is able to handle several different styles of metal and do them well. “Fade To Black”, while not a favorite, is a groundbreaking song for metal. One of the first truly popular metal ballads. They’d do this one again for “One” but it’s not as good IMO.

"FtB" is definitely reminiscent of Judas Priest's "Beyond the Realms of Death", at least to my ears. "FtB" is great in its own right though. As an album guy I felt the album should've been re-arranged to have it close, but that's just me.

My easy picks "Call of Cthulu" and "Fight Fire with Fire". I like 'em, but I like the others more.

    Ride and Kthulu

RtL or MoP flips as my #1 depending on what album I most recently listened to.

That’s a good point about “Beyond the Realms of Death” but notice I said “one of the first truly popular” heavy metal ballads. There’s no doubt in my mind that FtB popularized that style of song more than the Judas Priest song, but you are right: the influence is definitely there.

That's right, no doubt it's a massive song, especially in the ensuing years. "Realms" wasn't obscure or anything though, it was played quite a bit in the late '70s and early '80s and they brought it back in the '00s.

It’s a great song and one of my favorite JP songs. I’m just saying it’s not as popular or as iconic as FtB. I truly like it better than FtB and you’re right, it is a fairly well known song for Priest.

  10. First two tracks: Fight Fire and Ride. This is getting hard! I rank this at the top of their discography, and my personal favorite. Throw in the Creeping Death single b/w Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg and I’d say that’s their peak right there.

DQ: I think I'd put this this one sixth in the discography. I prefer all the other 80s stuff, plus the Black Album and Death Magnetic. Distinct minority, I'm sure .

  15. For Whom the Bell Tolls (simply because I'm tired of it) and The Call of Kthulu.

    It's Metallica's second best album.

I only marked Fight Fire because it's my least fave of the remaining 6. RTL is my second favorite Metallica album and going any further than this is like telling some of my best friends, "I don't like you guys any more". Very surprised that Kthulu will get bumped this round - I love that song.

Title track, chorus just rankles me, especially dislike the live versions from later years.

I would rank Ride the Lightning as Metallica’s second best after Master of Puppets.

Fade To Black and Call Of Ktulu.

Not sure how I missed round one, but WTF, Trapped Under Ice should still be in! :realmad: They should have been forced to listen to this every day since 1988, to remind them that their songs don't all need to last for 2 hours and be totally crap.

RTL is their best album. MOP is the only one that comes close, the rest are all disposable.

Missed voting apparently, but I would have voted for:

    Call Of Kthulu
    Fade To Black
