Neat! It's new to me. Maybe we'll see it in Murray Lerner's documentary later this year.

There's been a recent Director's blog update over at the movie/DVD site.

The clip has made the rounds of collectors for at least 20 years, but it's still fun to watch.

Wow! That is great! Thanks! I love that era of The Who.

Fantastic clip! People seem to forget that Pete Townshend was a big 12-string Rickenbacker player during the 60s. Where is this from? Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert must have filmed them tons more since they started off as filmmakers.
    Thanks for the link!

It sounds like it might be sourced from French TV(even though it appears to be Swedish as mentioned), from the guy speaking at the end. Great clip. :)

I still think a trombone would have been a better choice than the French Horn for that song.

Believe it was first shown on a program out of Stockholm called "Popside." Clips from that show were frequently rerun as 'promo films' in other countries. Yes, it's been rerun on French TV (in the early '80s, methinks).

    Is this the clip?

  17. Did they really let Keith sing high harmony on the track (yikes!), or were they just humoring him for the purpose of film?

Keith sang high harmony on several early Who tracks, and even a few leads.

    Yes.

Also, I need to correct myself:

While the basic track may have been done at IBC, the session in question is at Pye. Note the desk:

Michel Polnareff in Pye Studio 2 - 1967.
Recording sessions for EP - 'âme caline/fat madame/le roi des fourmis/le saule pleureur' plus additional track -'mes regrets'
    musical director: Jean Bouchety
Recording engineers: Bob Auger, Alan Mackenzie - 4 track

What's the problem? If it was Keith singing high notes in the harmonies I think he did a great job then.

  21. I know about the leads. Ringo sang lead of course on some Beatles tracks as well...but I'm not aware of any time they allowed him to do harmonies on a key single.

This clip was released in pretty good quality as a bonus track on the 4Reel bootleg label dvd of The Who’s 1969 Isle Of Wight performance.

Who history often dictates that they were not friends/were enemies or consistently antagonistic towards one another.

The "Lily" studio footage puts that to rest, somewhat. They looked like a collaborative unit having a genuinely fun time. Entwistle's
    cracking up the most.

From the information I have this clip was not shot by swedish TV but by french TV for the program "Bouton Rouge" which aired on may 21 1967.

Good job spotting the right studio!
