Wizard of Oz in 3D? Oh joy.

I'll stick with my Emerald Edition blu-ray, which has all of the special features but none of the crap.

LOL...I stick with my home made DVD of the 1955 IB Technicolor Print. You can see a real difference in the colors between the 1955 version and the new DVDs. I believe that the colors on the 1955 version were what audiences saw on the screen in 1939.

Actually they are not. The 1939-41 prints are much more "Yellow/Brown" looking. The 1950's IB Tech was more "neutral" (if such a word could be used for Technicolor). In other words, more accurate printing for the 1955 print. However, the earlier nitrate prints had a charm. Of course, since collectors have them, no one but a lucky few can even see a 1940 release print of OZ.. A true bummer.

Everyone's going to rag on this, but I'm quite excited to see it in 3D one time....getting a new perspective on a classic.

    Why the need for 3D?

I'd even happily watch this in black & white than 3D.

IMO many people are acting outraged because they feel that's how they're "supposed" to act...but in reality are quite curious about this.

Once in a while when a film comes on tv that I've seen a thousand times, I change the tv setting to give it that "video" look for a one-time change of pace...this is basically the same thing.

That being said, I wonder if the 3D kicks in when Dorothy opens the door to Oz....

Depending on the price I'd like to have this for "When The Lion Roars" documentary on blu-ray.

Many people do not know that The Wizard of Oz was originally shot in three dimensions: cyan, magenta, and yellow. ;)

There is a 2D 75th anniversary reissue as well, I'm hoping it will be included in that but it seems unlikely.

They better have cropped the whole thing to 16x9, too, so that it fills up my whole TV!!!

The Emerald Edition blu-ray I mentioned earlier includes When the Lion Roars (and so does the Scarlett Edition blu-ray of Gone With the Wind).

Like I said, it has all of the same special features, just none of the memorabilia.

When The Lion Roars should get a stand alone release.

What happens when you pair up Wizard of Oz in 3D with Dark Side of the Moon in 5.1 surround?

  20. One helluva trippy experience, I would think...:D

2D in the B&W part and 3D in the color part? Could be kinda cool, i hate to say. I think there's something suitable about a 3D release. The whole Oz portion is so artificial and stylized anyway, why not make it even trippier with a 3D visit?

Wizard of Oz 3D I can kind of understand. But who the hell thought Top Gun 3D was a good idea? What's next, Airplane! 3D?
