What do you think of these shows and where are we going from here? Netflix - Daredevil, Power Man, Iron Fist? What do you think of all this?

Sounds good to me, I wish they would bring back Blade. There was a Blade series some years back but it got cancelled.
I liked that one. I would like to see a Vertigo DC series, Sandman, Books of magic ect. That would be cool.
I watch all three, Arrow Flash and Gotham and like em all.

I think it sucks. It smacks of bandwagoning and it won't last. People will eventually (I'm there already) become sick of it - it's a bubble.

I enjoyed The Flash. Fun and well done. Not gloomy and dark like the other comic shows on right now.

My son has always liked Arrrow, but he now enjoys Gotham and The Flash as well! Pretty cool time to be 14 years old I suppose! I've enjoyed both Gotham and The Flash more than I have liked Arrow. Arrow has always seemed to me like too much of a whiner and a jerk, he is way to hard on everyone.

BTW, Arrow season two in it's entirety just showed up on Netflix today! My son is delighted!

Not a genre that's ever appealed to me, even as a child, but, save for the odd BD cover in the video aisle, or trailer on television, it's easy enough to blank out -- except at work. I work in IT, so the proportion of single, middle-aged men with ponytails, who lap this stuff up, is greater than the mean average, I'd wager.

Ratings are through the roof for CW. They never get audiences like that these days -- they're popping open the champagne.

I don't think it's necessarily that bad, provided they can keep the action and effects at a very high level. There are some comic-book-oriented shows that I think are suffering from relatively low budgets and the inability to have actual superheroes, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The risk of a burnout is pretty great, but on the other hand, they got 10 years out of Smallville, so successful comic book TV shows can be done. I didn't personally care for Smallville because I think it made too many changes to the classic Superman legend, but that's me.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could be pretty cool if it had some kind of style. Right now, it's just generic secret agents with the occasionally interesting villain. Maybe throw in some Dutch camera angles, make the colors "pop", and give it a look reminiscent of the 1960's Steranko SHIELD comics?

I pretty much agree. People are going to get burnt out on the comic book genre pretty soon if things continue at the current pace.

I loved Smallville when it was first on, but I can't watch the reruns for whatever reason. I thought it stuck pretty close to the Superboy/Superman legends, early appearances of Lois Lane, etc. notwithstanding. I liked the Green Arrow of that series more than Arrow.
Since Batman has zero prehistory, Gotham can play pretty fast & loose with any part of the prequel.
My jury is out on Flash, I did enjoy the series back in the '90s.

I hear ya with Sandman. Now would be the time for that to get greenlit. I wonder if Gaiman's the one keeping it from happening, or if he'd be on-board with a Sandman series. The good news is that Constantine starts October 24th on NBC. If that is successful, perhaps Sandman might become a reality?

My wife and I are finally caught up with Arrow, and are really enjoying both it and The Flash on CW. The 2-part crossover this week was really well done, IMHO.

Gotham is really, really good - this seems like a "prequel" that is doing everything right.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is also a lot better this season, and we're digging that, too. Constantine is OK, but I read recently that NBC isn't airing the second 9 episodes for season one. It hasn't been cancelled, but it seems to be moving in that direction. :(

  15. The Flash went from pretty good to really good over the course of its first half-season IMO. Thoroughly enjoying it.

  16. The Flash is the best superhero show on television at the moment. It is a refreshingly positive, less cynical take on superheroes. They aren't slowing things down for mainstream audiences, this is full-blown superhero adventures with a secret identity and colorful villains. They've already had the Flash run on water and up the side of a building.

I wasn't drawn in by the first few episodes of the Flash and have so much to watch. SHIELD could be good but it isn't, that's too bad. Gotham and Arrow are shows I follow with interest. I don't have Netflix, but I would check out Daredevil when it comes on if I did and will check it out on disc. I like this tredn when done right.

Gotham blew it, imo, by having re-runs back to back too early in the Xmas season...I feel it lost momentum. Their story arcs are decent, but the scheduling has left me cold.
Now the Flash on the other hand, it's been slowly amping up the storyline, without the scheduling messing up my interest. My wife and I couldn't recall how Gotham ended before the re-runs; we won't have that problem with the Flash.

Flash is so good, it deserves it's own thread.

I wanna discuss the Reverse Flash, but I know how to post using the "spoiler" alert tools so I don't ruin the storyline for those who haven't watched as far yet.

Here's some interesting stuff about who the Reverse Flash might be...

It wasn't too long ago that we comic book fan boys were just happy to see any onscreen adaption, even if it royally sucked, and it usually did. Once Sam Raime demonstrated a good superhero/comic book movie can be made that will still appeal to the average audience, the floodgates opened. I think as long as the shows and movies produced are of quality (which most of them are at the moment), I don't think the trend will die soon, though I do fear Ant Man will be seen by many as heralding a saturation point. I mean, really, Ant Man?!

I liken it to the mid 20th century cowboy movie era. Its a genre beloved by the current movie-going demographic and the all-important 18-35 TV audience and there is money to be made.

This is our time. I'm enjoying it while it last.

Nothing to add to your discussion, because I'm not interested in "serious" TV shows based on comic books.

I just like the picture below and this thread seemed like a good place to post it. :D

Arrow and its spin-off The Flash are both great shows. The actor (John Wesley Shipp) who portrays Barry Allen's father originally played The Flash on the short-lived 1990 TV series. Felicity Smoak (the beautiful blonde member of Oliver Queen's team) is also on The Flash TV series and they have a romantic interest. However, both shows are very different from the spotty, heavily-sanitized Smallville TV series, which was basically Superman meets Dawson's Creek.

  24. Felicity has already been romantically connected to Green Arrow, Flash, and the Atom. Watch out Aquaman, you are next!

Any insight from anyone on Oliver Queen. Is The Arrow dead? Is that it for the entire show and why the cross-intervention with Felicity Smoak to The Flash?
