I made a playlist of all the non-LP Dial-A-Song tracks so far this year. It's like having several CD single B-sides all together. And there are some gems here ("Jackie The Clipper", "Tick Tick Tick Tick" and this week's "Tractor" are all excellent), so I'm really looking forward to these weekly gifts from the twin quasars of rock. Also, I'm seeing them in two days in New Haven (almost 25 years to the day of the last time I saw them there), so it's all about TMBG at this point in my life!

 

Thanks for posting the new song @daveidmarx. I listened to the song but didn't get a chance to post it yesterday.
I agree with you that those are the 3 best non album songs so far.

I get the Dial-A-Song update e-mails and saw this one this morning. Great song! The lyrics are TMBG gold!

 

They are truly the gift that keeps on giving. What band is better to their fans? A free new song every week? Constantly changing not just setlists, but the dynamics of a given show? Friendly as can be to their fans at all times? Just a great time to be a fan.

 

I totally agree. That's why I've seen them live 5 times here in Nashville. Each show was a completely unique experience! I saw them on the tour for "The Else" and have an autographed copy of the album. The last time I saw them, they played the entire album of Flood, but in reverse order. There was a puppet show during the intermission. They are one of a kind!

 

Ah yes, the Avatars Of They! I just spun Venue Songs for the first time in ages, and I need to hear it again soon. Who else puts out an album of 46 songs, just over an hour total, with each song being ostensibly "about" a venue they played at while on tour? And most of the songs are just fantastic! Who else would make a song like Anaheim? It's scary how good and prolific they continue to be.

 

And yet so many people haven't discovered them. They've been my favourite band since I discovered them over 20 years ago for a reason yet they're largely unknown here in Australia

Finally got to actually watch the above video. So great to see John and John in a music video - it doesn't happen enough these days and they're giving off a similar vibe to the Ana Ng video of 30 years ago
