I recently came into a pre-owned California Audio Labs CL-20 HDCD/DVD player. It was free for me. It is kinda beat up physically, but seems to function well. No remote control. Is this the kind of thing I should use and cherish (I am not an audiophile), or should I sell it on ebay and put the money to good use, such as buying more vinyl?

I don't know much about the unit other than what I've read here: http://www.stereophile.com/hirezplayers/199cal/

Apparently it was a $2500 MSRP piece of gear in its day.

They were a really cool company that made great CD players. They got bought by GO Video and Dissappeared. I'm not sure how their stuff holds up against modern players.

I tried one on an in home demo years ago, it sounded awesome.
Didn't buy it because ultimately I couldn't stomach the price, but it left a lasting impression

Just to follow up: it's awesome and I'm going to keep it!
