OK guys... this thread is only about which you prefer: Joe Besser or Curly Joe Doritos..... there is a third option if you love them equally, as well.

If you love late era Three Stooges, please vote, and discuss!

I always thought Joe DeRita was pretty worthless as a comic actor.

Joe Besser wasn't that great a Stooge but he could be very funny.

My favorite late era Stooges short is the one with Muriel Landers

I loved The Stooges with Curly and Shemp but I can't say I cared for either of the Joes. I found Joe Besser especially annoying; "stop it, that hurrrrts".

Don't think I've even seen a Three Stooges feature, so I can't remember Joe DeRita at all.

Joe Besser was somewhat funny. His "Stinky" persona is OK in small doses.

After all the remakes in the late Shemp period (and then the episodes with "Fake Shemp"), at least the Joe episodes had mostly new footage.

    Besser.

Hardly a classic Stooge, but at least there was something there resembling a personality.

    CJDR, not so much.

I voted for DeRita, but mostly because I've read interviews with him and he's pretty knowledgeable about his craft and what his role was. Both of them were doing the impossible, substituting for the "personality" of the 3 Stooges, in most people's minds, Curly.

I don't blame the stooges for trying to stay solvent, but I don't blame the audience for not revering the remaining act out of loyalty.

I used to watch the Stooges all the time when I was a kid--I must have seen both Joes, but I don't remember anything about either of them. They must both be equally forgettable.

Frankly, neither Moe nor Larry as as good in the later stuff. They seemed tired. They were creatively handcuffed by parents associations who didn't like their antics. Meanwhile, the one with the most personality was Curly. It was amazing that Shemp wore as well as he did.

No disrespect meant, but none of them are interesting in their later work. Imagine your agent phoning you in 1960 and saying, "Good news. Moe Howard is going to phone you about the possibility of becoming the new third stooge."

Actually by that time I think Larry & Moe were in their 50's or 60's and they weren't as funny as they used to be either. As a parallel, young Chevy Chase could be funny, old Chevy Chase not so much.

Never was a fan of the Joe Besser-era shorts. Like him as a comic personality, but not a third Stooge.

Joe DeRita is the lesser of the two evils. However, if you get a chance to see their live TV appearances from the mid-60s, DeRita isn't too bad. He seems to "fit" better with Moe & Larry. He's no Shemp (my fave) or Curly, but not too bad when judged on his own merits.

Went with Besser, but I really don't like the later Stooges that much.

Besser, because the Three Stooges were still making 15 minute shorts when Besser was with them. That is what they were meant for. With Curly Joe, they were making full length movies where their fast paced comedy didn't get to be front and center. The greatness of the Stooges is in Moe's slapping the other two, and in the movies with Curly Joe there was not enough of this.

There were some hilarious shorts with Besser, so I voted for him. Of course, he wasn't in Curly and Shemp's league.

Can't have a discussion without bringing in this novelty favorite from the 80's:
The Joes were given notice in the verse:
Well, me and my friends love Larry and Moe
We love Curly's brother Shemp and his fat clone Joe

  25. I hate both of them.
