Everything? At the risk of coming on like Randy Newman asking his super fan, English journalist Jon Ronson "C'mon, there must be one of my songs you don't like?", (it's in there somewhere, I just can't find it at the moment ) there must be something that doesn't quite come up to scratch. How about 'Crazy Lady Blue' from 'Oops! Wrong Planet'. That's pretty terrible (though I suspect Todd didn't actually write it).
No, that's Willie Wilcox's I believe. Their biggest hit, Set Me Free, was written by Kasim Sutton. I'd have to look through all the albums, but I think they credited all the songs to the full band for most of the four pieces existence. I'm only sure of that and Libertine because I've seen Kasim perform solo and he discussed it.
Alternate reply to this post (should have thought of this one earlier )… Everything? Yep, probably the best track on (re)Production. I like that album too.
Hermit Of Mink Hollow came out the day after my 4th birthday. My Uncle played it around me that same year and I became hooked right then and there as a 4 year old.
I can honestly say I saw him in concert around mid 2000's and was disappointed in it. Vocals were awful that night. He didn't play long. He didn't do Think of Me even though we kept yelling it out.
Performance Dec. 30, 2017 by the nearly 70 year old Todd Rundgren: Now...tell me you want to hear "Hello It's Me" (again)
I saw him and I was yelling for "I don't want to play!" for about a half hour, and then he said "I don't either" and walked off. Artists...
You Rundgren defenders are too much. C'mon - if someone yells out "Think of Me", Todd should immediately play the 1983 Madonna song. I'm going to go to a Rundgren show, yell "play 'Think of Me'!!!" all night, and if he doesn't, I'll pelt him with rocks and garbage!
Hello, It's Me was literally the very first song he ever wrote some fifty years ago. Yes, it was a hell of an accomplishment to do so, but he's written nearly four hundred songs since then. How would you like to be judged for the rest of your life by the very first thing you ever did? As well as to be expected to repeat that very first thing for the rest of your life?
The prices for some of his albums are ridiculous. There's no way I'm paying £25 (the cheapest on Amazon!) for a new copy of Something/Anything.
I suspect that's the recent hybrid SACD release from Analog Spark in the U.S. - it's still 2 CDs, but the entire SACD content of the album is on one layer of the first CD. There should be other more affordable copies available (including a couple different CD versions from Edsel/Demon right there in the UK).
It's very rare for me to dislike a song from any favorite artist of mine. It's pretty rare for me to dislike songs period.
You can get The Complete Bearsville collection (11 lps, 13cds, includes “Something/Anything”) for under 36 quid on Amazon
Sadly, he and Michele got hosed by Washington Mutual back during the so-called "housing crisis." A sleazeball at the bank switched the standard mortgage Todd had negotiated to an adjustable one, exaggerated Todd's income and provided a fake appraisal of their home. When Washington Mutual failed, Chase bought their assets from the FDIC and got this lovely little deal where they didn't have to assume any liability for their crimes. Todd and Michelle tried to take this all the way to the Supreme Court, but they refused to hear the case. U.S. Supreme Court rejects singer Rundgren's Chase suit appeal So yes it's a lovely house, but that's why Todd is having to tour so much...to keep up the payments. Edit to add: I'm really not as obsessive as this post makes me appear to be. I just have an extraordinary memory for fiddly little details like these.
Yeah, when I saw him last time, he refused to play either "We'll Get Me One Too" or "I Don't Want to Work". Kind of sucks.
