Our local digital cable provider ran the Tom Dowd special on Sundance for the last time on Halloween...so I provided a tape to a friend who has the service, as he was kind enough to copy it for me. Trying to get the best copy possible, I gave him a Quantegy (nee Ampex) pro-grade tape, which happens to be super VHS. Little did I know his machine would auto-sense the tape, default to S-VHS, and now I have a nice copy I can't view!

So I'll have to dub it to regular VHS and watch a 2nd generation copy...

But man, what a show! Makes me even more sad now that Tom is gone.

How many others here were able to see it?

It was a great show! Tom certainly was passionate about his recordings. I laughed when he told that story about when he went to ENgland in 1967and talked to George Martin. He was astonished that a 3 track tape recording was the best recording equipment to be found in the country, while he had been using 8 track for at least 4 years!
