No, it has to be the MGM lion, going "Meow Meow".

Yeah, but here's the thing: when Mr. Rogers testified before Congress, there still was no drama. He was pleasant and patient, and he won over the Congress without resorting to a passionate "Mr. Smith" type of speech.

It was a great moment, but it's not film-worthy, IMO.

I, for one, am perfectly willing to watch a calm, rational, nice person explain why something is good. Maybe I'm weird.

Can You Say...Hero? - Mr. Rogers Profile Interview

Really is a great article, thanks for posting it.

    My Mister Rogers story:

I was working at Universal, delivering accounting mail to various bigwigs on the lot, I usually cut in through the guard gate #2 (North) that was (still is) by the side of the bank building. There was an old guard that was there for many years, Heinz was his name, I think.

At any rate, one day, I was walking across the street to the lot and was cutting in through Heinz's entrance when, who should I see standing there talking to Heinz? Fred Rogers, in costume as MisterRogers! I really thought my eyes were deceiving me until I took a closer look. And then I realized that I had spoiled a long camera shot, apparently, somehow, as crazy as it seemed, Mister Rogers was visiting Universal for his program and Heinz and his little guard cubicle were going to be in the show.

I was tongue tied but I managed to say "Hello, Mister Rogers, I think I walked right into your shot. Very sorry."

He said "That's is perfectly alright, you have a job to do here and you were doing it the best and fastest way you know."

I thanked him and moved on. I actually wanted to watch but I had to be back at a certain time.

So, that was my quick and unexpected encounter with Fred Rogers. :^)

I assume that was this episode they were filming, where Fred visits Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigino who were filming The Incredible Hulk at the time.

Episode 1468 - The Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Archive

This would have happened around late 1979, right?

The anti-Christian Bale! I feel like if the two of them ever shook hands, the universe would collapse in on itself.

Yes, that is right. Have you seen the show? Does Mister Rogers enter through Heinz's guard gate? I'm sure he does. Would love to see that.

I haven't seen it in 20+ years and it doesn't seem to be available on Amazon Prime or home video for me to check, but I imagine there's a shot of him going through the gate- that seems like the kind of thing he would want to film so it's probably in there. Email Tim (info @ neighborhood archive.com) and he might be able to send you a copy of the episode (just give him the episode number) or just ask him to check the episode for that shot and I'm sure he would be glad to. Tim knows all things Fred/ MRN. :)

    He wouldn't stand a chance.

Oh yeah!!! That's it, Heinz!!! He was a nice guard, friendly to me. Glad he's immortalized in this forever.

    Thanks for that!

I know who can play King Friday The XIII!

  18. Obviously actor and director felt differently after reading a script.

I was taking a tour on a boat on one of the three rivers in Pittsburgh and the guide talked about two of Pittsburgh favorite sons:
    Andy Warhall and Fred Rogers.

I grinned to myself and thought: "I can't think of two individuals more different. I wonder if they ever hung out?"

Wouldn't Andy Worhall be their favorite daughter?
You know, life would be so much better if I had a Jazz trio to play music based on what I happened to be doing. :)
