I'm wondering if Mule Variations is still analog.
    Remastering is digital, no?
I want this album in vinyl and I know that previous release are very good.

I’m not sure but I’d be interested to know as the 2011 pressing is still available and “in print”

    Anyone?
Is it better the 2017 remaster or a previous release? Is it all analog?
    Thanx :)

Did anyone get Mule Variations from Santa? The two pressings are both practically the same price and am deciding between buying the previous analogue mastering or this new remastering.

I haven't heard the new one but can confirm the original MV sounds great.

I haven't heard the reissue, but the original is widely regarded as a great sounding LP, so I would be buying that version.

Do we have a release date for Orphans?

It is. No idea how the reissue sounds, but the AAA pressing is a sure bet.
On the other hand, I don't like how my original Blood Money sounds. Maybe it's because it's an album I'm not fond of it.

Yeah, the AAA Mule Variations is the best sounding Waits album I own on vinyl, be hard to better it I think.
I have the latest Blood Money vinyl en route to me. I like the sound of the Alice and Real Gone recent releases, so hope it at least matches those two.

Everyone really rate the previous pressing so it would interesting to know what Tom did with it as a remaster.

    Is the remaster also AAA?

Different deadwax inscriptions in EU/US editions for all remastered titles.

Anyway I’m not buying Mule Variations. I’ve got EU Real Gone and Blood Money and I will throw a US Real Gone to my next B&N order but that’s it.

All of the new TW remasters are from very high res 192k digital files.

So the original is AAA? What about originals of the others?

My original Mule Variations is one of my favorite lp’s soundwise. Such a great soundstage and depth. If someone wants to know about the fuss over vinyl this is a record I might play. I was hoping to hear that there could be an improvement but it does not even seem possible.

Just got email from Newbury comics with pre-order for a colored vinyl Mule Variations. Says it is the new mastering. My CB vinyl sounds awesome but now I am really tempted for the new one.

I think I am going to hold with my original LPs of Blood Money and Alice though...

The back cover art still contains the statement

“This LP recorded, mixed and mastered in analog”.

You could say that this is just a carry over from the original artwork but on the forst pressing it states “Mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Chris Bellman”. This has now been removed and replaced with the remastering credits.

So if they’re going to be accurate why would they still leave the analog claim if it was a digital master?

Newberry now has a colored vinyl version of Mule, limited to 750.

Snagged one. Naughty, but nice. Can’t say no to this if it’s AAA (and even if it isn’t), and don’t already have it.

I picked up the remaster yesterday and the original pressing and did a side by side comparison and there's so little in it. Ultimately I've decided to keep the remaster as it had slightly more clarity without being bright. But both sound excellent.
