    Reb,

Actually, as written, this is a threadcrap. Perhaps, you need to express your opinion (just fine here) in a more diplomatic manner versus a sarcastic one. This would be more welcomed and better accepted.

Contrarian opinions are fine - it is all in how 'we' express such an opinion.

    Thank you for your cooperation!

I am pretty exited about this disc since:

    a) we get a 5.1 mix which hasn't been done before

    b) we get a bunch of bonus tracks that I don't have including The House That Track Built version of Young Man Blues

    c) for purists we get the original 1969 stereo mix instead of the many remixes

I think it's great that there is so much activity at Eel Pie and that Pete is enthusiastically re-vivifying their legacy with new technology and opening the doors on the creative process that went into it.

But the most exciting thing to me is the report that Quad is going to be available in surround!

It's too bad, though, that Pete has long since ceased to produce any new material comparable to that from the band's 1965-1973 heyday. To these ears, the last relevant release from Pete was All the Best Cowboys, way back in 82. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, and others from Pete's generation continue to release solid new work, while the man who wrote "hope I die before I get old" seems to have retreated into an endless series of nostalgic reissues of his earlier work. The earlier poster's $$$ comments weren't very subtle, but I, and many other Who fans, I suspect, feel a little ripped off after buying three different copies of Live at Leeds, Who's Next plus bonus tracks, Who's Next Deluxe Edition (somehow missing key tracks from the Lifehouse album such as Join Together, the Relay, Pure and Easy, etc. - I'm sure they'll be included in the next, 4-SACD Super Deluxe Edition), and Lifehouse Chronicles (I actually haven't shelled out the cash for this one). Not to mention A Quick One - we'll reissue it in mono, then in stereo, but not identify which version is which on the CD case, so the poor Who fan has to guess which version he's buying to complete his collection as he stands there in Tower Records. I'm sorry, but I can't get real excited over the two SACD Deluxe Editon of Tommy after buying the previous reissue. If anything, they should *cut* Tommy by removing some of the tracks that make little or no sense to the plotline, such as Sally Simpson, rather than adding outtakes and demos. When you add to this ongoing exploitation of the catalog the endless series of "farewell" tours, capped off by the John Entwistle-is-dead-but-we're-going-to-carry-on-with-the-show-anyway tour, I am seriously considering trading in every Who record in my collection and never listening to a Who album again. And when I was a teenager, I was as big a Who fan as anyone has ever been.

Although Pete may not have produced "...any new material comparable to that from the band's 1965-1973 heyday..." I bought The Lifehouse Chronicles and really enjoy it. I think the "radio play" is just terrific. It makes great listening, to me, in a dimmed (or darkened) listening room.

Which tour besides 1982 was billed as a "farewell" tour? None.

I too find parts of Psychoderelict brilliant albeit not as consistently good as Empty Glass or Chinese Eyes. Even so I would never begrudge an artist who has difficulty matching their earlier music the opportunity to continue performing and reinterpreting it as they grow older. Any Who fan that missed the 2002 tour missed one of their best since 1976.

I saw them In '89 with Simon Phillips (great!) on drums and it was billed as The WHO's 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour (I have one of those lousy black concert shirts to prove it!)
