"Tommy" --- do you "get" it??

    No. But since you mention it, if anyone "ruined" Tommy, it was Townshend, not Russell. That soundtrack LP was brutal without the visual element to distract you.

    I've always been of mixed feelings about this film. Some aspects are great, and others are terrible. Ken Russell certainly had the enthusiasm for making this film, but as previously noted, some of the people in it should just not be here. Oliver Reed is terrible, and I had nightmares for ages of Tina Turner's twitching face. On the other hand, Elton is great, Keith is funny, and Daltrey IS Tommy. One thing in it's favor, 30 years later, is that 70's ambiance that the film has.

    I love the beans and chocolate scene too! :)

    I thought Tommy was awful then, awful now.

    and as much as I love Quadrophenia (the album) the movie didn't do much for me. Catcher in the Rye is a much better accompaniment than the film, I think.
