We have done the 1930s through the 1990s. I wasn't sure if I could come up with 25 from 2000s that I love. It's my least favorite decade so far, but a few all time favorites.

Lots of good films in that decade...

    Almost Famous
    The Aviator
    The Dark Knight
    The Departed
    The Incredibles
    Inglorious Basterds
    Iron Man
    Kill Bill
    Memento
    No Country for Old Men
    Open Range
    Zodiac

I loved the way Avatar looked, but the story was very corny -- still an important film of this period. Brokeback Mountain I liked but didn't love. Minority Report was a terrific film in some ways that didn't completely come together for me. I included Open Range mainly because I worked on it but also because I thought it was a terrific take on a traditional Western with some unexpected twists... and I generally don't like Westerns.

Didn’t like the maudlin romance story. But the swiss chocolate scene and shootout in the end made up for it. Pity the director /actor Kevin Costner can’t make another western he was excellent at it.

I like ranking films it gives you a better evaluation. Some like the 1/10 rank order some prefer 1/4 ranking system.

A few of these I also haven't seen in awhile and I am most likely being generous on a few of them. I have recently started rating on IMDB right after watching a movie so I can look back and see what I thought. Certain films I have seen many times and know they are a 9 0r a 10 in my book. Ratings can also change over time. Sometimes a film doesn't hold up as much as I thought and sometimes it's better than I gave it credit for. My lists are not really in order, but usually the first few I list are top favorites.

I’ve ranked over 6000 films on IMDb (miss the message boards). But ..yeah, I’ve occasionally gave a film new to me 5/10 only to watch the film a few years later and give it 7/10 upgrade.

Wow! Nice! I wish I did this years ago! I only have a couple hundred rated so far. I agree about the message boards. I loved them. It doesn't make sense that they got rid of them. That was the main reason I visited IMDB.

Wow! At least someone liked it! I have never seen it. I only know of its awful reputation with a 4% on Rotten Tomatoes. I have always been intrigued. I will have to watch.

Completely disagree about it not being that great of a decade. I have spent the last couple of days preparing for this. I still can't narrow my 90's or 80's list down to 25, I was only able to make a list for 2000 - 2009 by cutting off some of the popcorn flicks, like Talladega Nights and the first Fast and the furious movie(the only one I like of the franchise). I also had to cut some lesser known films like Talk to me: the story of "Petey" Green and most of my foreign films. I tried to go with films I love that I have actually had conversations with people about. It really hurt cutting Takeshi Kitano's Dolls.

    Here's my list;

    Blue Spring (Aoi haru) (Japan)
    Battle Royale (Japan)
    Traffic
    Gangs of New York
    Old Boy (South Korean film)
    Bad Santa
    Kill Bill
    Mystic River
    The Aviator
    Collateral
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Sin City
    Blood Diamond
    The Departed
    Children of Men
    Apocalypto
    Casino Royale
    3:10 to Yuma
    American Gangster
    No Country for Old Men
    Body of Lies
    The Dark Knight
    Tropic Thunder
    Gran Torino
    Public Enemies

There was no way I could cut Blue Spring, as it is one of my all time favorite films.

Hmm. If you split 2000 to 2019 in half, the large majority of movies mentioned are from the first half. Not a promising trend.
