Who out there is a fan?
What do you think is their best album? Best song?

    My picks...

Fully Completely or Day for Night.

Song: Nautical Disaster or Locked in the Trunk of a Car

Fully Completely, Road Apples, Up To Here are my favourites. I may add the new 2 disc Fully Completely, it is under $10 here.

They are great live, if you have not seen them you are missing out.

Big fan and the show I saw at the house of blues here in Houston a few years back was memorable. Wish I could find a copy.

Always found it hard to name a full album I love all the way through, however. Nevertheless, I'm thinking fully completely, day for night or phantom power come closest.

Fave songs - I adore don't wake daddy and ahead by a century. An inch an hour is fun, another midnight jangly goodness and escape is at hand for the traveling man moving.

They used to be a great live band back before Gord lost his mind. Now it's just a sideshow featuring a decent bar band with a kooky lead singer who spends more time making up new lyrics and spazzing out then doing his job. It's entertaining but not for the right reasons.

    Best album - Fully completely
    Best Tune - Nautical Disaster

Interesting, I have not seen them in some time. I do not enjoy their recent studio albums as much, the songwriting has taken a dive IMO.

They do Neil Young on "Bobcaygeon." They do the Stones on "Poets." Other times, they're a Canadian version of REM.

I'm not sure when they lost the plot but I haven't bought an album of theirs since Day for Night.

I have to agree with SwollenGoat, I have zero interest in what Gord Downie does live anymore! I hated them in the early/mid 90's. But my brother in law was always playing their stuff and I had to grudgingly admit that Wheat Kings was amazing, which got me to actually listen to them. Turns out they're great.

Favorite song; my quick answer would be Scared! Haunting with brilliant lyrics. Having said that I LOVE the double shot of The Dire Wolf and The Dark Canuck on In Violet Light.

I don't even have a favorite album of theirs to be honest.

    How about favorite lyric?

    I we ever get home
    and the subject comes up
    this war isn't for children
    war is nothing's enough

    One of my favorites anyway!!

Big fan here... I own all their albums.

I don't know if I can pick a favourite album, but my fave song is probably "Locked in the Trunk of a Car".

If Gord and the Sadies new album "Conquering Sun" is an indication of Gord losing his mind... bring it on. I thought that was a fantastic album. But then again, I also think the Sadies can do no wrong.

Best Album: Road Apples. Fully Completely is pretty close behind though....

Toronto always had a fondness for The Hip.

Best Album: Fully Completely (although Up To Here is terrific)

Fave tunes: Another Midnight; Lionized; 38 Years Old; The Luxury; Trickle Down; Poets...
...they have so many great songs.

There's a Canadian by-law in place: If you live here, you gotta love The Hip.

54-40 and The Tragically Hip are like Canada's R.E.M.

I've never been a huge fan but to be a good Canadian I'm finally going to see them in February for the first time -- I figured if they're performing Fully Completely it's a good time to see them without having to listen to too much weak newer music. But what you write about is a major reason I've been reluctant to go before. The match of Downie's cryptic, literary lyrics with the band's meat and potatoes rock and roll makes for an interesting tension -- it's like Michael Stipe singing with the Black Crowes -- but the affected onstage weirdness seems like a major distraction.

When The Hip are "on", they're something to behold.
I saw them at the ACC here in early 2013 and they were on fire.
It was really something to see. (They were loud as hell, though...)
Sarah Harmer came out and sang a tune with them.
A Tragically Hip show is always a lot of fun!

Now there is a Canadian artist I'd love to see turn out another album like "I'm a Mountain"... as opposed to her poppier stuff...

I live here and the only band I hate more than The Hip is Rush.

Come to think of it I hate the cold and hockey, too. Maybe I shouldn't live here after all.

I don't hate Rush, but I'm nowhere near as big a fan of them as most Canadians seem to be. Plus, years of over-exposure on the radio has pretty much killed any chance of me ever exploring their music any further.
