I enjoyed the series premiere on Sunday. Looking forward to watching the rest. I thought the dialog, actors and setting were great.

Anyone else enjoy the first episode?

Yeah, I did enjoy it. Can't really say "why", except it was very "interesting". Definitely will keep watching.

Same here, I have not watched it yet. My son told me he read where it was compared to be good as The Wire. That is a pretty tall order for a new show.

This looks like it is gonna have some great character development. McConaughey's character is really interesting, and the split time frame has me hooked as well.

It's off to a great start...

Rust seems to have fallen off the wagon in the current scenes....

Slow but compelling. If the writing is decent, how can it not be good w Matt and Woodie?

Great first episode. I had to watch it twice.

Haven't done anything like that since the debut of Breaking Bad.

Yep, we loved it too. Very compelling, well written, directed, and acted, imo. I also liked the photography...very interestingly shot.

Yes, in the sense that the mood, atmosphere, and damaged protagonists are more compelling than the actual "mystery." I like it for that reason, and those that were enraged by The Killing will probably not like it.

I have high hopes for it. The ideas were interesting.

I am originally from Vermilion parish where the story is set, but not Erath. Still, I have a fairly good idea of the accents spoken down there, the music played in bars in 1995, the last names of the detectives in the sheriff's department, etc., so I am kind of mystified over how this was researched compared to how Tremé was done. Maybe the upcoming episodes will capture more of the local flavor. To me it's not a matter of "Oh well, it's close enough." So far it has been careless, imo. The music in Boardwalk Empire has been more authentic (except for the anachronistic theme song.)

I wonder how much shirtless pot smoking went on on the set.

    Missed the opening episode.

Want to catch up in time for the next program on Sunday.

Is there a link to episode 1 anywhere?

There doesn't seem to be one on the HBO site.

I streamed it on my Apple TV via the HBO Go app.

I was looking forward to it a lot but came away disappointed. I thought it was incredibly slow and all over the place. It had zero hook to keep me watching. Basically an hour of dialogue, a convoluted time-jumping storyline and a complete lack of anything notable happening. I won't be watching again, HBO again fails to hook me with a Sunday series.

"Rocks & Gravel" by Bob Dylan is part of the soundtrack. I don't think that was ever released except for on the Copyright Protection set.

Although the damaged cop has become such a crime procedural cliche, I liked the first episode a lot. McConaughey has become a very good actor and I'm curious to see how his character got the way he is.

When I make predictions about TV shows online I am generally wrong, but here's my take. I think the person that McConaughey shot was his daughter. Hence the drinking and being unable to sleep and the pessimistic world view.

Seems like I see the show listed on one or the other HBO channels on a daily basis. Also on HBO ON Demand.
