Totally didn't see that guy as Rick Springfield-funny.

I Never watch the previews of the coming week...

I might have to go watch the first episode again, but did we ever see who the bird man is..? I remember seeing the mask next to Casper in the car, but can't remember if we saw the guy... I wonder if this goes to degenerate stuff, Russian stuff or both...

I'd love to discuss this episode, but when is a "spoiler" not a "spoiler" anymore?

How long should a thread avoid them after the debut of a new episode? 48 hours? 72 hours?

In addition, I think some of the responsibility must be placed on the part of the reader -- For example, I didn't check this thread until after I watched episode #2 on demand late on Monday.

I'd like to discuss the episode/ending as well but HBO reruns the show throughout the week, plus there's DVR, of course. Does the forum have spoiler tags?

Yes, although very few seem to know where it is or how to use it:
    1) Select "Insert..." icon on bar above reply field (it's to the left of the "floppy disk" Drafts icon
    2) Select "Spoiler" option
    3) Leave Spoiler title blank, or label it with whatever you want
    4) Type in your spoiler information between the two spoiler tags ([ SPOILER ] [ /SPOILER ])

Wait, it this about True Detective? Or Season 2?

I've got about two episodes to go left on Season 1. Did this break off from another chain?

I requested that Mark update the thread title to reflect Season 2, which he just did. So confusion no more!

Ep. 2 gave me hope for the rest of the series, it wasn't bad. I expect a major twist next week to explain what happened this week!;)

After the middling reviews, I wasn't that excited to check it out, but I'm glad I did. Really enjoyed the first two episodes.

I thought episode 2 was a little tedious. Anyone else feel that way? All of the deals and connections involving Frank (Vince Vaughn) seemed unnecessarily complicated. I know they are giving background and context at this point, so I am extending latitude. However, with only 8 episodes, the pace needs to pickup. The end of the episode was certainly interesting.

Totally agree with the pacing being tedious. Found my mind wandering a lot through about half the episode. Seeing Rick Springfield look so freaky pulled me back in. And the ending was a very unexpected explanation point.

Also agree. Episode 2 was rather boring. Until the last moments anyway.

LOL, having seen Bloodline recently, I kept wondering whether or not that character was Ben Mendelsohn!

loved S1 I'm gonna check out S2..hope it's just as good!

  19. Disappointed so far, but I'll watch at least one more episode. Not anywhere near as intriguing as Season 1 IMHO.

I'm one of those people who needs a sympathetic character somewhere in the show, or I really just don't give a ...... hoot. (I felt some attachment to MM's character in Season 1 almost immediately. Not sure exactly why, but I am a bit on the Cynical side with respect to the Human Condition)

Two episodes in and ... ho hum ... Rather boring, confusing, muddled mess. As others have said, not a single character worth giving a toss about. I even hate the intro music. Most interesting things so far are CF's American accent and the shapeliness of the mayor's secretary! ;-)
Am I going to give Ep3 a pass? Not in your life!!!!

As I read somewhere, I think the NYT, that a key setup here is that the cops are all investigating each other, and aren't supposed to solve the crime; the only one who wants the case closed is a criminal. The cross-currents here should get intense.
