My current setup: Ariston RD11S with Audiomods arm and AT33EV cart. Once I got this tuned and set up properly, I stopped thinking about upgrading. Well, maybe a Lyra cart next time...

 

I've had a Technics SL-1800 for a while now which I love, but I would like to get a fully automatic turntable so I don't have to jump off the laz-y boy at the end of each side.

 

I started with a Garrard in the early 70's and moved to a full manual Pioneer in the mid-70's. Couldn't tell you the model of either one if you offered me $1000. I've seen some similar looking Pioneers for sale and I *think* it could have been a 12D but I honestly don't remember.

I sold it when I got a Technics SL-QL1 which I've had since. I also have a Denon DP-23F and Marantz 6100 but I don't use them a lot.

Honestly, all three play my records satisfactorily to me so I have little interest in getting any of the new models.

Oh, and I have a Zenith stereo console from 1969 with their standard 2g turntable.

 

Current Turntable:modded Rega RP-6 (groove tracer Delrin Platter,Counterweight,metal sub platter,dual pulley,Mitchell Engineering Clamp)

Want: EAT E-Flat Turntable with flat Carbon fiber Arm

 

Have: Empire 598 and Music Hall MMF-7
Want: Rega RP8 or Well Tempered

 

Have: Thorens 124

Want: Garrard 301/EMT 930

 

If everyone would have uploaded pics of the tables they mention (at least the ones they want), this woulda been the ultimate turntable porn thread of all time.

Love my LP12 and 301.

I like that most Rega and VPI owners want to upgrade to higher end Rega and VPI's. Brand loyalty is pretty big when there is a good amount of other brands out there.

 

I have owned Rotel, Technics, AR, Dual, Thorens.

I would like one of those fancy shiny ones with a fat platter, two arms, that weighs sixty pounds and looks expensive. I'm serious!

 

I currently own a Thorens TD166MKII and love it.
As a nice backup TT I would love to own the classic Technics SL-10 "close&play"(Definitely not a toy) lineaer tracker that
was around in the early 80's.
I repaired one for my friend who actually sold me the Thorens. I hope maybe he will eventually sell me the SL-10.

I recently purchased a Thorens TD-125LB Brazilian Cherry (Vinyl Nirvana Repro) with SME M2-12R & put a Dynavector Karat 17D3 on it. Dave does great work. Highly recommended. My other table is a Technics 1210M5G.

It's only been a couple weeks now but I'm definitely noticing the pace that I've read about the Thorens having. I find myself tapping my fingers along with the Thorens playback. The Thorens also does a better job of isolating any external noise than my Technics does. I guess I'd say the Thorens does sound more "musical" than the Technics. Really need to spend more listening time to absorb the subtle differences.

I wouldn't mind owning a Garrard 301/401, Thorens TD124 or a Kronos/SME style table someday. I've previously owned a VPI Scout.

 

I've owned my current Dual CS-5000 for a few years now. I had to replace the power supply capacitors in order to get the speed stable but other than that, it has been a very reliable turntable. It is semi-automatic, so good for a family system since I don't have to worry about my wife letting the platter to continue to spin after the record is over.

I've also owned a VPI HW19 Mark III and a VPI Aries 1 - both superior turntables to the Dual but also not good for my current system needs.

 

I want Mikey Fremer's turntable, whatever that is..

Ah the linear trackers, never played with one....maybe one day as I'm a curious type

 

I'm not so sure that either would be an upgrade from your Technics.
