Tv series not shot on location

I loved Justified but it was pretty obvious that it was shot in southern California and not in Kentucky.
NCIS is set in Washington DC but it looks very Socal to me.

Anything else that sticks out?

 

The producers of Dukes of Hazzard shot the first five episodes in Georgia and the rest at Warner Brothers in Burbank.

 

In many Gunsmoke episodes over the years we'll hear characters talk about being on the flat Kansas prairie while behind them we see sweeping California hills.

In an early Bob Newhart Show Bob goes to a Chicago area country club and the backdrop is mountains. I believe a similar mistake happens in an Elvis movie -- E driving in Florida but the process screen behind him shows mountain footage.

NAS Pensacola was a short-lived series supposedly taking place in Pensacola, Florida. I went to college in Pensacola, and have been a visitor several times to the NAS base there (there is an excellent Naval Flight Museum there) I can assure you that there are no mountains in Florida. I believe that the exteriors shot for the TV show were likely San Diego, though I'm not certain.

Murder, She Wrote. I never believed for a second that Cabot Cove was anywhere but somewhere in northern California.

 

There's some episode of Smallville -- set in Kansas -- where the characters go to a swimming hole and it looks like they're in frickin' Banff

 

Most sitcoms

 

And Star Trek. Aliens speaking English is a dead giveaway.

I believe some exteriors were shot in Chicago

 

Fringe was shot in the British Columbia but it was set in Boston and New York mostly. The remake of V was set in New York but was shot in Vancouver I think, same for The Strain.

 

I am told there are palm trees visible in some scenes shot at Stalag 13.

thirtysomething was supposed to be Philadelphia but all of it was shot in Southern California.

 

You will be shocked and disillusioned to learn that The Honeymooners was not actually filmed in a dingy Bed-Stuy tenement.

So, am I to believe MASH wasn't actually shot in Korea?!

 

What's interesting is when you find out that pieces of TV shows are shot in one place, then another place, and the editor cuts the two together in such a way that you believe it's all happening in the same place. One terrific example: on Showtime's Ray Donovan, there's a boxing gym featured in many episodes that's supposed to be in East Hollywood. The front of the building is actually in downtown LA (many miles away), and the inside of the gym is in Watts, several miles from there. You'd never know they were in two different places.

A lot of television involves a lot of smoke & mirrors. I can recall cases on Lost where they had to do a last-minute pickup with certain actors for some scenes, and wound up shooting locally in LA even though the original scene was shot in Hawaii.

HBO's Veep shot for several years in Maryland (for tax reasons), with some background shots and plates shot in the real Washington, D.C., but it's been in LA recently.

 

The outdoor set shot in Malibu, CA, actually.
