yeah it seems like there are plenty of homes that this could land at now. obviously i'm not an insider, but maybe vidiot has insight.
CBS owns Twin Peaks. CBS also owns Showtime. The guy who runs Showtime worked at ABC at the time of the original show and knows Lynch and Frost.
That's awesome. Made my day. Showtime will have to get something done with Lynch if they want to avoid public embarrassment and media backlash.
As part of the #SaveTwinPeaks campaign, you can sign the petition telling Showtime that they better get Lynch back (or give another network the opportunity to do the show the way Lynch wants): https://www.change.org/p/showtime-save-twin-peaks
I'm picturing Gary Hershberger going into a sporting goods store: "I'd like buy a letterman jacket." "What letter do you want on it?" "No letter. Just the jacket."
Just kill this project already. They already botched the first series from season 2 in every possible way they could (losing interest in the project, letting the actors dictate the storyline, etc.). Now they've botched this. I think this series is just cursed or the creators are incompetent.
Just posted on twitter... David Lynch @DAVID_LYNCH 2 minutes ago Dear Twitter Friends, the rumors are not what they seem ..... It is !!! Happening again. #TwinPeaks returns on @SHO_Network
I just came in to post the same thing. Saw it on Facebook. Funny, as I had been reading that Dana Ashbrook said a few weeks ago that negotiations were continuing with Lynch and that he saw the chances of him reaching a deal as 50/50. He also added that several actors saw little reason to do the show if Lynch wouldn't be involved. So my guess is that threats of public backlash and reluctance of many of those involved forced CBS's hands. Now I can go back to being psyched!
http://tvline.com/2015/05/15/twin-peaks-david-lynch-showtime-resolved/ Showtime president David Nevins followed that up with his own Twin Peaks-y statement, in which he announced that fans will be getting more than nine episodes now. “This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever,” he said. “Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Pre-production starts now!”
Extrapolating from David Nevins' comment, we may now have some insight into the initial conflict. Perhaps when David Lynch &Mark Frost started the actual writing process after finalizing the deal, they realized the needed more episodes to tell their intended story, and that's when Showtime originally balked? His comment also implies the series may not debut as soon as previously expected. But I'm not complaining.
A few interesting details on the new Showtime series, including the fact that they'll be doing more episodes than originally announced: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/david-lynch-twin-peaks-showtime-796083
From Time magazine online - http://time.com/3879594/twin-peaks-reboot-david-lynch/?xid=newsletter-brief Ya, he said not enough money offered at first to do the script/story the way he felt it should be done. Thank god he held out for more, I don't think we fans would have appreciated a cheapening.
Sherilyn Fenn appeared at a convention today and announced there are now going to be EIGHTEEN episodes of Twin Peaks 2016. I wonder though whether she was misinformed or misquoted.... That's twice as many shows as they first announced.
