    Jethro Tull

"Stand Up" and "Thick as a Brick"

"Benefit" (which followed "Stand Up") is my favorite album from Tull, but I think you get a nice taste of the early days from "Stand Up" to the magnificence of their sorta-prog glory courtesy of the lyrical genius of 8-year-old prodigy Gerald "Little Milton" Bostock

    Beatles

"With the Beatles" and "Abbey Road"

From their great album that best displays their rocking early sound to their slickest, most sophisticated album.

Fuzzy Logic and Rings Around The World?
Fuzzy is the more accomplished sound of the bands' early flavour and Rings is the everything and the kitchen sink.
The band The Beatles and Beach Boys could've been.

Right. I guess I would place a long and interesting ouvre into periods or other divisions that make a varied artist appear in relief...maybe Rod divided into early, middle, current RS. We know his classic covers of late put rockin Rod Denny Ronnie to bed early. My choice: Every Picture Tells a Story and Gasoline Alley.
