Even the lowly(I say lowly due to being inexpensive) Elite A20 Integrated amp has a decent sound. That TT has been on my wish list for a long time.

The PL-90 was fantastic. Long tonearm (over 11" effective length), non-existent rumble and noise, very heavy platter, and great sound from every account. The seller is just tormenting people showing that in the background of their listing images. :)

Back in the days when Pioneer and Sony made some of the best audio products in the world. Love that turntable.

yep, Pio engineers really did care about sound quality back then.

i mean, when even a lowly early DPL AVR such as my 1990 TOTL VSX-D1S makes for a totally killer Stereo Amp
as if it were expressly designed for that tertiary operational function, then you know their design team knew their craft...

Did Pioneer discontinue its Elite line a few years ago?

That stuff looks so good. I'm tempted to bid on the LD player. I have a Panasonic, but it was never up to delivering what that format is capable of.

Nah they still have a few receivers at least.

Currently my only piece of Elite gear is the Pro-151FD plasma. A wonderful piece of kit, even if it was expensive at the time. Eight years in, and I'm still enjoying it every time I turn it on.

I bet the build and parts qualities have gone down over the years ...

But still no Exclusive (the best Pioneer ever made, sold only in Japan). Pioneer's finest didn't get sold domestically. .

Whatever happened to the highly glossy front panel I used to see in all Elite equipment?

that seems to have been one more traditional element of Pio ELITE design that has gone the way of the Dodo.

the faux-Rosewood side-panels disappeared almost 15 years ago. the gloss bezel fascia was more recent, around 2011 or thereabouts?

honestly though, the fascia was originally Japanese Urushi Lacquer, hand-applied, most likely.
i think they ceased such efforts right before the turn of the millennium, the last component made
boasting such finish, IIRC, was the very first ELITE statement DVD player, 1998's DV-09.

i think... -THINK- it sports an actual lacquer finish, i just mightt be mistaken on that however.
    in any case, however, it DOES in fact sport a real aluminum bezel;

Are the current Elite gears made in Japan?

    Good stuff.

I owned several Pioneer Elite components in the 1980s, including the PD M6 cd player, A88X amp (brilliant amp), CT-93 cassette deck and the F-77 tuner with digital circuits.

Most of it was stolen but I still have the cassette deck.

    That's a PD 73 not 93. I had one, I preferred the PD-91.

Love the turntable, bu the price was and now used is just too much, one of the few Elite items I don't have.

I still think that "updated" logo is cheesy as heck on Elite gear.
