The question deals with the U.S. CD issue of Bruce Springsteen The River in the "fatboy" jewel case and bearing catalog number C2K 36854. Simply put, is there a Japanese CBS/Sony pressing? I've come across early U.S. DADC pressings, but that's it. I ask about the existence of the Japanese pressing because I just obtained a bunch of old, sealed Springsteen blister packs, including one with The River. For the single-disc titles, you can see the disc, and all of those discs were pressed in Japan. Of course, you can't see the discs for The River due to the fatboy jewel case. The blister pack for The River is definitely early. There is a card inside instructing the consumer how to open the blister pack, open the jewel case, handle the CD, etc. Also, the front clear plastic portion of the jewel case has "Patent pending" embossed in the top left corner. I rarely see this with fatboy jewel cases. In fact, the first time I came across it was several years ago when I found the Japan-for-Europe pressing of The River in the bins. If there is no Japan-for-U.S. pressing of The River, then this blister pack must contain the earliest U.S. DADC pressing, probably from late 1984.
