Who reissued that album with that hideous misleading cover?
Everytime it's been reissued, the covers get more cheesy.
The original 1968 Tamla cover likes fine, why doesn't anyone use it anymore?

That cover (well, the same photo) is still used on the Motown 20th Century Masters Christmas Collection version of the album but by and large they don't use it on photos because most people don't identify with a younger Stevie.

I thought Dwight Yoakam's "Come on Christmas" from 1997 was a bootleg or something the first time I saw it. It looked so amateurish. It's okay to listen to but lacks perhaps that very passionate vocals of Yoakam when is 100% involved. It may sound more like a project he was convinced to do by someone else than something he plunged into with do or die inspiration, including the cover art. :shh:

Yeah, now that I look at that cover again, between the text and the graphics and the not-very-good shot of Dwight on the cover, it really does look like a bootleg!

I don't like it but it was not a cheep o job. It was done by Bob Peak one of the most celebrated and highest paid illustrators in the late 60's and throughout the 70's.

I would totally buy this album if I saw it in the store just because that album title made me laugh out loud. :)

After all, what says Merry Christmas better than meat?

Obviously the art director wanted to pay homage to the butcher cover.

An early example the disembodied head school of Christmas album art:

Whenever a record company created an album cover using some stock photo of the artist they had laying around, it really made it clear that they were too cheap to bring him/her in for even a couple of hours to do a dedicated photo shoot... especially when the stock photo wasn't even in color.

 Har har har. Nothing screams "snowy winter" like the presence of an easily removable air conditioner.

Country music generally produces horrible, cheap looking album artwork. There should be a thread about that! There's thousands of 'em!

One of the "Moms" to one of the "Dads". "They couldn't even give us a f***ing Christmas tree!"

Slim Whitman. "I'm wearing nothing below the waist under this robe".

Fourth cover down. "This is the worst fake tan I've ever had".
