Yes possible. Unfortunately Presence is the only album I do not have on vinyl. I had the cd. I did not really like the album at the time I bought it. Almost thirty years ago! Maybe it would be an opportunity to re-discover this album. Can someone advise me a good pressing? The US Monarch seems well considered I think?
We had talked about it together. According to you a hybrid pressing. Do you remember ? But possible that the pressing of Piros dating from 1974 is even better? But that is so great that I am very happy with it! Excellent dynamic. Punchy bass. Huge soundstage. Many details. Softness in the analog sensation. Stellar pressing. Sounds like the best Japanese pressing!
It's an album with consistent sonics as most nations used the Atlantic Studios mastering. The Classic Record reissue (too pricey nowadays) holds it's own with the early ones. As far as a MO press, I don't find that it matters, although I do shy away from the RI pressings as my experience shows a higher percentage of a lower grade of vinyl quality, more surface noise. Also need to check the mastering when purchasing the contract pressings (CTH/CSM/CP) as they would often times use Columbia mastering from poorer tapes.
Yes it is often true. But other cuts later can be remarkable, and exciting. I think for example the Beatles White album. There is a consensus on the three best pressing: original UK, white vinyl UK 1978 and white vinyl german pressing DMM 1985. I have a preference for the first ( tubey cut) but the other two are great. Maybe because of the variation in listening?
As you can see, with the same sound level, Italian pressing has the same dynamic as the RL. Same graphics for some pressing in your country (Piros) as some German presses (RL, RL / RL, PF ...). Alas, many American pressings (Sorry guys!) Or German have a very poor mastering! That we understand each other well. I'm only talking about dynamics. Regardless of other parameters.
While those graphs can be visually interesting, they do not really tell the tale. I have heard the Italian, and at best, it betters some later unsigned US II pressings. At best. And yes, in the US we are aware that some are not very good, huge pressing numbers ended up producing many duds. I think there is a possibility that your sample size of US pressings puts you at a disadvantage to speak on those?
Well I believe some songs are even recorded outside. The worst offenders are probably theor more rock and roll type songs while the blues ones tend to fair better. Its the songs like Dazed and Confused and Since Ive Been Loving You that usually tend to sound the most different and best across different pressings. Good Times Bad Times just isnt that different.
But all early US 70s releases after the RL until Piros cut are downgraded right? The mastering was just completely sterilized.
