I would argue the earlier pressing on Cleopatara (CDL 57666) is preferable, pre-dating the remaster and having a more natural sound. In comparison the remastered EMI release is too "cold" to my ears.

    This I do agree with.

Having compared the Roadracer with the first Castle pressing (CLACD), my vote would go to the Castle. It's interesting that you pick up on the bottom end because in comparison to the Castle the Roadracer has less bottom end, but slightly more clarity to the sound.

Only Another Perfect Day, which manages to have even less low end than Ace of Spades.

The rest of the early Castles are OK.

Are any of those CDs no-noised? Because that is one area where I have trouble noticing it (apart from the fact the tracks would sound lifeless and odd). I was wondering if I didn't find the Roadracers more confortable to my ears, because they could have had some noise reduction. I'm not saying they have, just asking if anyone noticed they could have.

I don't know whether the Roadrunner CDs have it but one way to notice besides the lack of air, is a phased treble (like MP3 compression). Sometimes the hiss pumping when the NR is gated on and off... Reverb trails cut short...

I've only heard Overkill and the debut album on Roadracer, and I certainly wouldn't say either of them was treated with no-noise.

Funnily enough, if I recall correctly from a previous Motorhead thread, the EMI of On Parole which you mention a preference for is no-noised.

I'm guessing the no-noise sweeten the sound in that case lol

Will upgrade with a compare to the next LP in a few days

Nice! Have really enjoyed this thread and have eBay watches out for your recommendations. Sadly, they're not cheap. No Remose, for example, is only available for $40! Steep!

  10. So, on to No Sleep 'til Hammersmith soon? This has been a useful thread so far, hate to see it peter out...

Are they? The RR sounded just a tad bit more subtle on my player. Very close, in any case.

Currentely gathering different CDs for the follow up on this thread.

I'm on it, just take times to gather all kind of different CD press! Don't be surprised the pattern remains the same though!

There's a lot of info in other Motorhead threads. Search is your friend. Although sometimes people use the umlaut, which makes it harder. ;)

All kinds of varying opinions, though. I'm interested in trying out the Deluxe editions now that someone's saying good stuff about them. I keep going back and forth between the Roadracer and '96 for AoS, personally.

I don't think any of the DE's sound good, but the one for APD is the least bad. But you need all of the DE's for all the bonus stuff, IMO. :agree:
