The NKC and Coltrane discs don't have the 24/192 PCM as the default track; it's actually the second option. The default is DTS-HD MA. Maybe that's how they get around legacy playback concerns.

This is all very interesting regarding Exile on Main Street. Thanks to fredblue for posting additional information concerning his disc. I play the PCM track on discs where there is a choice, so I appreciate knowing that it is just the navigation screen that is in error on the original pressing (i.e., states 24/192 but plays 24/96).

How does the Nat King Cole disc sound? I haven't pursued it since I have the DCC gold CDs and the Analogue Productions SACDs. Is the mastering on the Blu-Ray disc comparable to the discs that Steve mastered?

I think it sounds quite nice, but I haven't done an A/B with Steve's SACDs. If I recall correctly, The Extraordinary NKC comp includes a fair amount of outtakes and unreleased material, which makes it easy to recommend.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I may have to get the Blu-Ray disc. :)

Neil Wilkes, the head man at Opus Productions (the company that author the Yes, XTC, Tears For Fears, Simple Minds HFPA Blu-rays and numerous Steven Wilson DVD-A/Blu-ray discs) posted over @QQ yesterday to say that they make the DTS HD MA the default 5.1 on their Blu-ray Audio discs rather than PCM for that very reason.

The Extraordinary Nat King Cole Blu-ray Audio is excellent in its own right..
I prefer the sound on the 3-channel SACDs.. they sound warmer and richer, the Blu-ray is generally a tad bright by comparison (to my ears, on my setup) its still well worth getting though and at the very least it makes better use of the Blu-ray disc capactity than many other HFPA Blu's, though thats not damning it with faint praise its solid if unspectacular.

    You're welcome :)
Once I've moved into the new place and got settled I'll have the gear setup and hopefully more time to be able to analyse these kinds of things in greater detail.

I always appreciate having an SH.tv personal shopping assistant on call. :D

Seriously, thank you. I bought a sealed copy for $16.96 shipped. :)

Thanks. I am not surprised that you find the SACDs to be warmer since they sound so natural to me.

  14. That was just a ballpark guess but we know many audiophile versions don't sell more than 3000 units. These Blu-ray audios are selling to a global audience but they are competing against SACDs and Hi-Rez downloads.

That's the question of the day. Blu-Ray.com is still showing it releasing on BD in 3 days, Sept.4. Can't find anyone selling it though....

I pre-ordered it from amazon.com in March, but they don't show a release date.

Does anyone have the new Nirvava comp yet? And wasn't there supposed to be a Who comp, as well?
