They're good together don't you think? Willie is 15 years younger and looks boozed up, but strong. Not yet the old man He puts on a real fine performance here, and he most definitely belongs in the alternativ Mount Rushmore along with Jennings, Williams and Jones. My four picks tonight, a solid one if I say so
I'm feeling very alt-country after the Old 97's last night, so after listening to those albums on shuffle for a while, this:
Liquid Liquid Sometimes I like my music to be highly melodic. At other times I prefer it to be extremely percussive. Liquid Liquid is decidedly in the latter category.
I'll second this promotion. Nice guys too - met them backstage at the Majestic in Detroit when they opened for (and blew away) Wilco many moons ago.
I'm not familiar with his work, I've seen his name pop up here before and as of late, his name is popping up here and there in articles I've been browsing. I'm going to have to take some time and educate myself on this musician.
A highly intelligent man who died too young, he used sound to delve into your head, into yours and his soul, in a certain mood this can be devastating. Try Spiritual Unity but don't stop there. The quote at the bottom of all my posts is his.
I think I've written this here before, but the first time I went to a Wilco show was to see the Old 97's open. I first saw them on Austin City Limits. I thought Too Far To Care and Wreck Your Life were great, but then I didn't care for Fight Songs at all, and I assumed Satellite Rides wouldn't be good either based on the first single. It sounded to me like they were going for mainstream success. That's not a bad thing, but how they were doing it didn't suit my ears. I didn't pay much attention to them until they started sounding like the band I thought was so great in '99. So, out of their 11 or so albums, I think they've only made two bad ones. although I've never listened to Satellite Rides, so my opinion is uniformed as to that one. I didn't really become a big Wilco fan until the I'm Trying To Break Your Heart movie. Up until then I only had Being There. But other than the label alt-country, they are two very different bands.
What's so great about the barrier reef?! I first started listening at Too Far to Care, which I think is my favorite, and I loved Fight Songs and Satellite Rides. After that I just kinda lost interest in the whole alt.country thing. I still love it but I'm not immersed in it like I was before. I considered doing my law school internship at Checkered Past records!
"What's so fine about art?!" Do you know what a "good times van" is? I l googled it once and got nothing. You should pick up Most Messed Up. That's their best album since Too Far.... I watched this last night. From about 3:00 on it's Rhett telling a good Bob Dylan story that came about from his writing new lyrics to "Desolation Row."
Google has caught up, apparently. I always thought the "Mystery Machine" on the old Scooby Doo cartoons was a "Good Times" van. According to this article, it was a company in Texas that customized vans. Good Times custom vans
Currently "Jazz is Phish". This is a surprisingly good release... by whatever standards you wish to judge it...
