For Album Club purposes, and also because they are great albums, BobbyCharles self-titled (1972) and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Damn the Torpedoes. Two perfect albums.
Disc 1 yesterday, disc 2 today. I think it's, up to now, the best live release from the 2013-2017 period of the band. Recorded live just some months ago, this excellent-sounding soundboard captures King Crimson on a splendid night performing compositions from every phase of the band's career. The only missing element is no other than the space for free improvisations, but there are still lots of surprises and unexpected turns. I'm not very fond of Jakko Jakszyk's vocals, particularly during Wetton's or Lake's vocal parts, but he has some really big shoes to fill and he does his best.
I know Crispy and I are both on the Bobby Charles bandwagon, but there's plenty of room! I'd also throw Paul Pena (s/t or New Train) in the same boat (er.... wagon). Folks around here will like both. (Jerry adds pedal steel to a track on New Train, btw)
Not buying this or listening to any Crimson (old or new) before the upcoming 11/11 show in Allentown, PA. I've been considering listening to the tracks I haven't heard in 25 plus years (stuff from Wake through Islands) that I will probably hear at the concert.
Big fan of the Bobby Charles album. Talk From The Rock Room: Bobby Charles - 'Small Town Talk' 1972 Self Titled Album Currently jamming Dylan's first show of the NET, Concord, CA 1988 w/ Neil guesting.
One of his best. And anybody out there who likes this record and haven't heard Alvin Youngblood Hart's cover of "Ice Rose" should do that post haste.
Had Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here on yesterday, an album not heard in full for maybe ten years. Very good, except for that annoying logo in the top left ruining a great cover. Next album I want to buy is 'Rust Never Sleeps' Can someone Tell Me Why there is 2 different covers for that one?
I found this one in a record store today and I couldn't help buying it even though is also going to be included in the upcoming box set. Really good-sounding soundboard recording.
