Bit of a fusion kick today. Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior John McLaughlin - Electric Dreams and not least:
I have a friend who's a big Kinks fan, that's his favorite band. Anyway, he's always telling me to listen to Chuck Prophet, and of course I don't because I take direction like a mule when it comes to recommended music. Anyway, we're on the way to Solid Sound, and he plays me some Chuck Prophet and I say "He sounds like Ray Davies!" He replies, "I know!"
I removed the shrink wrap, but I haven't made it to this yet. I dig the inner box foil lining. Disco-y.
God Street Wine- Gots To Rewind- demos, outtakes etc. 1988-1998 Two disc set, part of their 25th anniversary box set from a few years ago, fantastic
Liudas Mockunas Rafal Mazur Raymond Strid Live at Divaldlo 29 Greatest unknown sax-bass-drums trio record ever And it’s only ~37 minutes long Mind Blowing improvisation - I’m a long time follower of Strid who is one the greatest drummers on the planet, but this saxophone dude - wowza
I remember picking this one up upon release. I liked it too. And then it seemed like everyone that put pen to paper for a living started stomping, screaming and hollering about the embellishments Douglas made with Jimi's tapes recorded and produced with new backing tracks by then, present musicians. It didn't stop me from enjoying the record, some of it is quite good, but it became somewhat suspect after that. It was a 'purist' thing and I understood that to a degree because he died just a few years before. The record disappeared a long time ago and maybe I should pick it back up. And I can't find my Manassas cd either, speaking of which... dammit.
Not a great compilation fan but I have enough of them. This is a good one because it contains a live show from the Marble Arch in 1976. It was great to see him live during his Sparks tour, and being a big Brinsley Schwartz fan the show couldn't have been better. Their rendition here on the live segment of Chain of Fools kills it. Most of the material that is relevant for me is on here, so it's all good.
I just got this one that I’m playing, it’s the Impex gold CD. I have a stereo six-eye that I was listening to last weekend, side A is as perfect as it could be considering the age, but side B has a good bit of crackle throughout the entire side. Thus, I decided to order this nice digital copy that I’ve heard a lot of good about.
Evan Parker - tenor saxophone Mikolaj Trzaska - alto saxophone & bass clarinet John Edwards - double bass Mark Sanders - drums City Fall Recorded live 9/3/2015 @ Cafe Oto in London Disc 1 (first set) - great performance but slightly less than optimum recording (that is for 2015 compared to most live recordings of these sort which are usually spectacular)
Rodrigo Amado: Searching for Adam Amado on tenor & baritone saxophones John Hebert on double bass Taylor Ho Bynum on cornet & flugelhorn Gerald Cleaver on drums recorded in the studio in Lisbon on 9/20/2008 On Not Two records You want to hear a great modern drummer sounding real real good? This is one of those recordings. Drum break on the first track over the top great. Great to hear the great saxophonist with 3 of the current generation of the best NYC improvisers. This is the Amado recording that set me off a few years back.
