I'm not getting your post. I know Oreos (really good cookies, but I can't eat them anymore), I know Safeway is a supermarket, but it's still beyond my depth.

In the fine spirit of BIG STAR, Dwight Twilley carries on. Not as special as the former, but they still did it pretty good. Back when Rolling Stone still mattered-well I thought so because I was young and still impressionable-this was their headline in the 'record reviews' section.

So I went out, bought it, listened and was sold, helped along by the grace points of RS, but more importantly, I liked it. It had the hooks, well-placed reverb for that Memphis/Sun Studios teasing rockabilly power, and Beatlesque pop. Slick and pretty too, but that's ok for some things. It sounds gorgeous. I'm listening to this power pop classic a long while later so that must means something.

    Right?

Oreos, throughout most of my life, were a chocolate cookie with white filling. That is your original and traditional Oreo cookie. An Oreo with chocolate filing, to me, is not an Oreo. But this has happened to a lot of products, especially snacks and "junk" food--the sizes, flavors, etc. are varied to the point of seemingly infinite varieties.

It's sort of a crotchety middle-aged man viewpoint. Bring me back to the days where there was one kind of Doritos, before Cool Ranch flavor was introduced.

So, I'm not saying that a 2017 remix of Lodger is a bad thing, and I hope you enjoyed it, but is it really still Lodger?

Maybe a dumb question that doesn't need an answer. It's not like I don't listen to remixes.

Now I get what you meant. I was not thinking of the filling when you mention the "chocolate" in Oreos, but of the black substance they are made of. By the way, I prefer the classic Oreos, just as I usually prefer original mixes (what about strawberry Oreos? those are a disgrace!).
Nevertheless, the remixed Lodger is still Lodger, and it sounds great.

In any other thread a lack of clarity re: Oreos would have led to throwing off the gloves and an NHL-style flame war. 'Cuz that's what the fans want.

Well, there goes a few more bucks. You guys have me thinking why
on earth I don't have those cookies in my house. This place is getting
expensive. On to some more rawk n' roll... and cheers.

That's the only 70s Bowie album I'm missing. I'm definitely picking it up though.

What are both of your opinion(s) on the Stage album? Despite it's editing problems, or criticisms I should say, I have always considered that one over David Live. Stage as a complete listening experience, always blew me away, from the time of its release and now, can't really explain it, just glad to still enjoy it.

Miles snuck into my rock and roll happy hour. And speaking of getting
blown away, Miles Ahead usually does it.

I'm listening to every version of "Powderfinger" I have:
    12/11/89 Paris (acoustic)
    Live Rust
Version on a mix my brother made me (which will be one of the below)
Version from A Perfect Echo, disc 8 (I have the date information somewhere on my computer)
    Rust Never Sleeps
    Weld
Listen To This, Eddie! (Neil and PJ boot)
    Phish 7/26/2017

Shelter me from the powder and the finger.

An essential version. I like the Cowboy Junkies’ version as well, even if it doesn’t measure up to Neil versions.

Speaking of essential, listening one more time to Gene Clark’s No Other, probably my favorite discovery of an old, unknown to me album, within the last several years.

The Flamin’ Groovies, Teenage Head. With all due respect to Rocks by Primal Scream, and most Black Crowes albums, this is in my book the best Stones album not recorded by the Stones.

I prefer David Live because I have a soft spot for that transitional moment in Bowie's career (in a way, he was in a constant transition, wasn't he?), but Stage is in indeed a great listening experience, despite the fact that I'm not too crazy about the way they play some of the Ziggy Stardust material there.

Only Steely Dan could be so elegantly decadent. Spectacular album.
