I love all of those early Mothers album, particularly Money, Ruben, Uncle Meat and Burnt Weeny Sandwich, all of them bleeding perfect. Regarding Absolutely Free, it was recorded quite quickly with a pretty low budget. It could have been even better.
Money is a triumph of its age and i dig the actual songs, but as it is it aint my cup. Weird, because i love Uncle Meat, and thats just as all over the place. Props to Weeny as well!!! Thats probably in my top 5-10 Zappa albums. Its mammoth.
Thanks everyone for your generous well-wishes and love the music you are listening to. With celebrations in hand lol, I'm back and on the musical tic toc clock, one of my very favorite things to do; plenty on the dial lined up and ready to go. Here they are... w/ Rough Mix thrown in for good measure, with great input from sweet Ronnie Lane and Charlie Watts plays drums too.
Three of my favorite albums ever in a same thread! And the Townshend/Lane one is pretty nice too, but unfortunately I don't have it. Oh, the Lane/Wood Mahoney's Last Stand soundtrack is great too.
Earlier: Buffalo Springfield debut 2018 stereo LP reissue. Now: Neil Young - ROXY Tonight's the Night Live
When ever I play Love Devotion Surrender which is not near enough, the guitar interplay intensity and the plain heaviness of the exploding fray shatters me, always takes me by surprise... great stuff. Listening to Rough Mix last night reminded me of what a superlative studio treat it really is, an amazing work of creativity and loose fun. Most of Townshend's solo canon through The Cowboy with Chines Eyes suits my tastes pretty well, including his brilliant first one. Kudos... The Daredevils were a very good studio and live band. I saw them live along with EmmyLou Harris, Toy Caldwell of Marshall Tucker, and Elvin Bishop at a small venue show, and it was special. Like seeing someone as cool and hip as can be, but the last individual in the room to realize it. So talented, so strange, so different they were. It's a beautiful Sunday morning, time to Saddle Up the Palomino...
Great show. Originally broadcasted live in the south and on the eastern seabord - during a thunderstorm so the signal was iffy in many places. But this recording capture sounds very good fortunatly
Metallica 9/29/88 Birmingham, UK Fantastic audience recording that hears the boys slaying Britain. Love the Damaged Justice tour - they seem the most pissed off on this tour. Great setlists throughout as well! Never mind the sick stage show with the exploding Edna statue.
Metallica 4/11/99 - Honolulu, HI Excellent, AUD recording although the vocals are rather distant. A precursor to the S/M performances that were to take place about 2 weeks later, these shows featured the you-can't-fathom-how-rare-this-is breakouts of The Call of Ktulu and The Outlaw Torn in preparation. Great setlist!!!
Listening to a playlist of Frank Zappa instrumental music I've just made: 1-Transylvania Boogie (studio, 1970) 2-Little Umbrellas (studio, 1969) (1987 mix) 3-Trudgin' Across The Tundra (live, 1972) 4-Occam's Razor (live, "Inca Roads" guitar solo, 1979) 5-Big Swifty (live, 1972) 6-Imaginary Diseases (live, 1972) 7-Little Dots (Pt.1) (live, 1972) 8-Little Dots (Pt.2) (live, 1972) A bit unbalanced, too much '72. I have a weakness for those concerts, I admit it.
