Some more Coltrane... The "Love Supreme" photo is obviously differently cropped, I couldn't find a better one. The photo is taken by Bob Thiele. I think you can find the uncropped version in Ashley Kahn's book. I've seen the uncropped "Blue Train" photo before as a poster, but what looks like producer Alfred Lion on the left was airbrushed.
I always wondered what the point was of using that photo for this album. Are they celebrating? Ironic picture as well since Capital was "cutting up" their albums to produce more...
I thought the Beatles were holding an umbrella in the photo (same clothing as Beatles '65 umbrella pix)
nah always looked like a knife to me. It was just a question until I saw the uncropped photo as to WHAT they we cutting..
The cover of the Lee Morgan Sextet album. One could turn this into a Blue Note records thread really quickly.
Very cool thread. The Blue Note comparisons are interesting, as I had never seen the original photos before.
Love this thread! It's interesting Odeon used the same VJ crop but didn't reverse the negative for it's From Me To You/Please Please Me French EP. Seems like the other labels, like Parlophone, also did not flip the negatives and mostly used the full body shot but with the background masked out, similar to the Yesteray and Today cover, when they used this photo for their EP's.
Good one ! Never saw that before. I thought they may be putting a knife into Dick James for screwing them on their publishing rights.
This one is from the same photo session as VI http://www.beatlesbible.com/images/releases/israel_beatles_in_italy.jpg
Jim Marshall put out a book called "Proof" that is made up of his proof sheets of famous shoot -- so you see the photo that was used, but also the ones taken right before and right after. Love it. http://www.amazon.com/Jim-Marshall-...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1306795471&sr=1-1
