Wait til this guy realizes UO also sells shirts in every color, not just his favorite one. Meltdown rant will surely follow.

Cassettes are fun. You might think it's stupid but some people like 'em.

    Get over it.

The hipster author of this article is missing the irony that while shopping for vinyl he is annoyed by the cassettes for sale. Both are nostalgia items. He lacks any self-awareness in his writing.

"On which object to play it?"
    Why my Nakamichi of course!

    It's happened.

    It's finally happened.

Cool has reached its final form.

It is now cool to sound like somebody's cranky grandfather.

Next up: driving slow in the passing lane with one blinker on for miles and miles. All the kids are doing it.

"Vinyl" can sound good. Cassettes can't. Ever. On anything. At any time. Never. Ever.

Only Now are people complaining about cassettes? It's been happening for as long as they themselves have been manufactured.

FYI, yes, the writer's cluelessness on certain things registers. He's only talking about "what would I play them on?" rather than saying much about the inherent and gross defects of the medium. I just thought it was interesting as his argument is totally a base one.

Well if Hipsters believe that a long, impeccably and fastidiously groomed beard, along with a granny bun is a good look. Then it stands to reason that they are devoid of any self awareness.

When I saw the new Keith Richards on cassette for 12 bucks I starting thinking about an old boombox.

Remember when you could easily record and listen back to your band's rehearsals on about $30 worth of "equipment"?
Now the same task seemingly requires a minimum $300 investment.
    Kinda off-topic... but wtf.

Factoring in the sound improvement and inflation, I'd say today's mini digital recorders are a far better deal.

I see your point, by and large, Still, you still can do that. Mp3 players are about half that.

If you were playing cassettes "25 years ago" like the writer of the piece, you should not be shopping at Urban Outfitters.

That's just the recorder. You haven't factored in the cost of whatever you are monitoring through. Ok enough with this digression, says the OP probably :)

I get far better recordings on my $250 Zoom then could ever have been had on a $30 cassette player in the 80s.

That'd be the same if you were using a cassette player. No difference. You'd still want speakers. Those can be had as cheaply or as expensively as the buyer wishes. The same with the amp or lack thereof. Heck, earbuds and headphones can be had very cheaply.

If he was a true hipster he'd be able to play them on his mom's cassette deck in her '90's Buick that he drives to work and back because he "can't afford a real car and my bike tire is flat."

Nah, I followed the "ignorance is bliss" method. We would huddle up and simply play back on the same boombox that we just recorded with. It was basically all about proper room placement for that crappy built-in mic.

Yawn. Same old mantra, vinyl sounds better...blah, blah, blah.

If the hipster community really wants to be counter-culture, why is there no interest in 8-track cartridges?
