For digital, I'd go no further than the original 1980s UK Castle CDs (or the original Mercury Bronze CDs, if you have the luck or the £$€).

As for vinyl, these reissues clearly aren't AAA, and the original records are by no means difficult to find.

Clean originals that haven't been spun on a Fred Flintstone record player 50 times are hard to find.

In my opinion the "holy grail" is the Victor VDP-1148.

Wasn't that one on your list of not recommended SHM-SACD's?

No, he had it rated average. That is the third tear down from outstanding. I have it rated higher, as it is much better than the cds.

The best Look at Yourself is the original LP... nothing comes close!

  6. I have not heard the SHM-SACD yet.

I have that 1st Japanese CD pressing and I also have the German Bronze CD. For this album, I think the Bronze CD is quite a bit better with regards to overall sound quality. Also, I think that 1st Japanese CD pressing is running at the wrong speed. There is definitely a very noticeable speed difference between this Japanese CD and the Bronze CD, and the pitch on the Bronze CD sounds more correct to me (going by memory).

For "Demons and Wizards", I also have the first Japanese CD pressing from the same series as well as the early German Bronze CD. There, I slightly prefer the Japanese CD, but the difference is not that big.

See this link for more opinions from me on Uriah Heep CD's.

I just got the Demons and Wizards and Magician's Birthday reissues, and I think they sound good but are clearly not AAA, but they do have a lot of detail and are quiet pressings. I do not have anything to compare them to and have not listened to the LPs since high school. I am enjoying them, and think they are fine for the amount I paid for them.

UK or US for Very 'Eavy/. I never found it when I was at a record shop last month so ordering from Amazon and wondering which version would be the better pressing.
    Thanks

You definitely want a record pressed at Optimal as opposed to one pressed at United.
I would try the UK personally.

The 80's German Bronze CD is indeed the best. But as others have indicated, it's very expensive. Luckily, the one on the "Castle Legends" label (with the catalog number prefix "CLC" -- NOT "CLACD" like the regular Castles) is digitally identical to the Bronze and much, much easier to find.

I picked up Uriah Heep Live, mainly because I have never found a red label Mercury that didn't have a warping issue, I assume due to the packaging. The cheap packaging here actually benefits the record (no booklet but glossy stiff paper inners). I got the KR European issue pressed at Optimal. It does not sound bad. Pretty sure it is cut from digital, but the eq sounds ok. Not bright. Well defined bass. Overall worth the 20 dollars I paid for it. I have clean originals of all the other David Byron albums, so I doubt I will pick up any more, unless I find them cheap.

Is there anymore information about this package. Who mastered it?

According to this link they will be remastered by Andy Pearce. I very much enjoy his work on Black Sabbath's remasters and Deep Purple as well. They could potentially be very well done.

Andy Pearce never remastered Deep Purple. His recently work ELP, Free, Uriah Heep. I was disappointed by his Budgie remasters.

The fact that all bonus tracks are allegedly previously unreleased, mean we need to keep the 2003 remaster for the other bonus tracks?
