If I only want to hear DVD-A discs in their hi-rez 2 channel mix, am I required to connect a TV to my DVD player, or any DVD player for that matter?

I have been given conflicting advice on this issue.

Some of the older DVD-A's required a monitor to navigate the menus. Most of the newer discs will play without needing to punch around menus and will play just like a CD or SACD.

My SACD DVD player is not connected to a TV.
Sometimes I hook up the S video for DVD Concerts when I want to listen in 2 channel instead of 5.1. I have a couple of other 5.1 systems for most movies.
