Maybe you didn't notice, but the mono mix has missing backing vocals. Instead of them going, "Love, love, love, love, crazy love," they only go, "Love, love, love, love." It's like that every single time in the mono mix.

I still like this set also. I need to make a playlist though of the alternate takes that I like. I don't need to listen to 5 takes of "I Shall Sing" or whatever every time I want to listen to this set.

I Shall Sing first complete take on the cd which is indexed as track 13 and noted as takes 2,3 and with the count-in and includes the unique and short drum and bass instrumental 'breakdown' followed by the short piano bit that comes in and then later the horn solos break it all down even livelier The first measure or so of one of the horn solos sounds squeak-botched to me but if intentionally so is somewhat covered up by the other horn and anyway after that they rock their parts This take also features Van's wordless vamping away the last minute or so of the tune to great effect. It's easily the most interesting and inspired take to me musically and as far as vocally is the one imo whereby the singing is most in time with the track and in tune and on point with the phrasing and where Van also sounds into it. The rest of the takes never reach that combined level of energy, creativity, and precision imo, that synergy, from both Van and the band. YMMV of course! And for good reason :). Glad to find that take though that I just love that also makes it convenient for me from having to include other takes of it too in my playlist since every other song has multiple ones! :). Okay, I should shut my piehole in this thread for awhile!

I saw Moondance for 7.00 at wal-mart with a Remastered purple border and an RR3 sticker. Is this the new remaster? I've never heard Moondance..

Listening this morning for the very first time to the 5.1 bluray of this. Wow.

I just set up my first 5.1 system a week ago, 4 Wharfedale Dentons, a Wharfedale center and sub, Oppo 105D playback directly into a Marantz MM8807 amp. And this disc is gorgeous, soft and lovely sonically and musically, just knocks it out of the park. Some 5.1 discs I've played this week have been 'meh', not much more than glorified stereo with a little ambience in the rears. This one makes me very happy I bit for this set a couple years ago even though I wasn't sure then if I'd ever take the surround plunge, it was a big $$ investment for me.

  12. When you don't have time to listen to the whole set, do you gravitate towards any particular one of these re-ordered discs?

    Best Wishes,

    Hey David

Aside from disc 2 which is the same as the second disc of the "Expanded Edition", I really enjoy disc 3 of the "Alternate Running Order", all the discs work quite well but I'd say that is probably the one I go for most often.

That's not something I ever listen to Mike, I prefer mono or stereo mixes to multi channel audio.

It's definitely worth it, I find it hard to listen to take after take of the same song, yes it's fascinating every once in a while but the novelty soon wears off, however when things are mixed up like this it becomes not only an easier listening experience but also a more enjoyable and rewarding one, it also means I listen to this music far more often that Iotherwise would do.

  19. It's something I ought to do - just haven't got round to it before. I find listening to multiple takes sequentially pretty chellenging, following the first listen, regardless of what it is.

    Best Wishes,
    David

  20. Is there a 2.0 mix of the original album on the blu-ray, or is it only 5.1?

That's exactly how I feel, I was thinking of mixing things up anyway then I saw @BKarloff had made a list of what he'd done so I followed suit, he'd done a pretty good job and I saw no need to deviate from it, apart from correcting a few typing errors on his list it's exactly as he put it together and makes it so much easier to enjoy these wonderful performances.

Just like who decided the Blu-Ray was going to be 48/24. Then everybody keeps saying why couldn't it be at least 96/24. My copy says 192/24. Where did somebody get the info that it was going to be 48/24?
