  6. The whole first side of Moondance, and Wild Night, because it's a blast to play on the bass.

if you don't consider 'moondance' to be van morrison's greatest song, you are just making things up for the sake of posting something. it might not be your personal favorite song, but it is, by far, morrison's greatest song.

maybe 'brown eyed girl',comes close, but 'moondance' is a song that everyone knows everywhere and whenever it comes on everyone in the room knows the tune.

it's like saying 'stairway' is not led zeppelin's greatest songs.

and yes, both of them (moondance and stairway) have been played to death over the years, but that doesn't change a thing.

Well, I guess that does it. "Moondance" it is. And that Led Zeppelin thing's been cleared up too, free of charge! <end thread>

    :sigh:

The thread is clearly about people's personal favourite songs, not which is the most well-known.

and you, obviously, do not agree.

care to expound and explain why you don't think those 2 songs are what they are,

    or

rather just make fun of me with your wonderful wit and wisdom?

Working with a limited knowledge of his catalog,
    I'd say, "Astral Weeks".

Second, I'd say, "Baby, Please Don't Go".

Quite a spread in the spectrum there, I know.

Before I clicked on this was the first song that came to my mind. Not because it's my favorite but I wondered if anybody would choose it and wham, there it is. Great choice :uhhuh:

I have too many Van favorites but I'll throw out Sense Of Wonder, one that has worked it's magic on me over the years.

Moondance is Van "lite" - it's a great song, but it's really overplayed pop that hardly captures what Van is really about.

The real magic? It lies in tracks like Listen to the Lion, Almost Independence Day, Astral Weeks, Sweet Thing, Cyprus Avenue, and so on. These sort of songs are utterly transcendent.
