Anybody using or heard the Onkyo TX- series receivers? Are they well built and sound as good as stuff from Marantz, Sansui...?
    Thanks

The Onkyo 70's vintage receivers were very well made, with the same good design philosophy than Marantz, Sansui or Luxman vintage equipment of that decade.
For curiosity... Which is the exact model of the receiver that you are talking? :)

Onkyo had some real powerhouses before they started cutting corners in the 1980s. Some models had 200 watts per channel, and you needed a handtruck to move them.

I have an Onkyo A7070 amp and matching T4090 tuner. I replaced the amp with a McIntosh MA5100, but I still use the tuner. In fact that was my second A7070, they are a steal. Only problem I noted is that the lettering on the front is sensitive to cleaning. A bit of spit and a finger faded some letters. My brother removed a third of the lettering on the first one I had after I gave to him with Windex. Clean carefully !
