I recent bought replica/exact reissue reprints of the BATMAN comic book, #s 181 & 251, Silver and Bronze Age respectively! Exact replicas - the whole entire comic, not just the story. All the filler pages...and the paid advertisments., from 1966 and 1973 respectively. Not a " collectible ", a current-day issue...for a mere 3300% or siincrease in the list price, in the case of the earlier one:laughup:!
Comic books may be more RESPECTABLE now, but they were more of a MASS MEDIUM then...remaining " big time " (Marvel, DC, etc.) standard-format run few outside/paid advertisments now, the am" ad pages " mostly filled by literal house ads and " tie-in " ads involving the oubkishers' characters. In the past there were more ads.
I'll look through these two, at least. I'm sorry:shake:, I can't scan. Maybe this would belong more in my main comics site? But, perhaps " seeing it/being seen through other's eyes " would be nifty, to paraphrase Rabbie Burns:goodie:...........

  2. Try and look for the book Mail Order Mysteries - it reviews a lot of those crazy comic book ads from a 'what was advertised' to 'what you actually got' perspective.

...Thank you. However, given my earlier comment to-day about " being a little out of step/too late for a lot of Our Time/' Boomer ' cultural whatsits ";), regarding vintage funnybook Mad Ave. fodder, I focus less on the Sea Monkeys/Johnson Smith catalog (I did send away for the latter at least once back in the day:cool:!!!!!!!!!) that Mr. Silver Age and such focus on...as, for one. the more not-what-you-expected stuff that also appeared in comic mags:eek:. However, that does sound like a fun book!:)

I wonder how many kids placed an order and didn't tell their mom until the package arrived? :)

My buddy got this and it was cardboard. We were so disappointed. We wanted to take it to the local pond and shoot fishermen!

Those soldiers were cheap two dimensional flat plastic, hard to get them to stand vertical. I was so disappointed.

My friend and I ordered the Charles Atlas plan when we were about 12 or 13. Don’t remember much about it.

Dinosaur Dracula (and X-Entertainment before it) have a few articles with old comic book ads in them. I love these. :)

There's one where you could get a pet raccoon (?!).
