It's not a cello or a viola on "Ruby Tuesday. It's a bowed acoustic bass, played by Bill AND Keith. Bill's hands were too small to fret the neck of the acoustic bass (he always played a small-scale electric bass), so Keith fretted it and Bill bowed. Teamwork! All this talk of wrong versions makes me glad I've recently decided to take a "wait and see" attitude with reissues. The reality always varies from the hype, and my blood pressure just can't take it anymore.
I should have added that my "wait and see" policy on reissues does not apply to anything that Mr. Hoffman has worked on!
John, I didn't know that. Interesting. I guess they felt the bass should be bowed by them since it was their record. I bet they didn't play the flutes though....
Thanks for the info. These bad a$$ rockers can't even play a bass!!! While jazz musicians have no problem at all!!
