Virtuosity - Denzel Washington & Russell Crowe 7/7. Blu-ray

Yeah, it's not a great movie but it has a totally gonzo performance with Russell Crowe as a psychotic killer coming from the virtual world.

What? No fans of this over the top cheese drama?

 

Ok, I guess I will lower myself into the cheese tip and report back. Hopefully somebody will appreciate this gonzo course in bizarre genre filmmaking.

 

The brief virtual reality craze dates this film horribly... the effects are subpar for the era, Denzel is flat and has zero chemistry with the female lead. Crowe, still not yet a breakout at this stage of his career, seemed to care about what was being made, and thus gives the premise a bit of lift.

The best argument one could make in favor of it is that its close cousins (the two LAWNMOWER MAN films, WILD PALMS, and BRAINSCAN) are all far worse films.

 

I have the DVD not sure if it's anamorphic? I like the movie much. One day i will get the BR.

 

I like it just for Crowe's performance.

Like I said, not a great film but such a gonzo performance makes it entertaining.

 

This movie was a helluva lotta fun. Crowe at his batsh*t craziest.
