I don't believe any films shot by Sven Nykvist have been listed yet, so I want to make sure the man who lensed many of Bergman's films, including the extraordinarily beautiful Cries and Whispers, does not go unmentioned. He also shot my favorite '80s movie, The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Great idea for a thread. Terrence Malick's THE NEW WORLD is the first that comes to mind - I have THE TREE OF LIFE, but haven't watched it yet . Some movies like that one are so beautiful to look at that it can take you out of the story. I definitely agree with 2001, HEAT and BLADE RUNNER. Also the Coen brothers' version of TRUE GRIT is worth mentioning - Roger Deakins was the cinematographer on that, I think. David Lynch's DUNE is also visually arresting. I like all these films. Another film which makes great use of the widescreen frame would be Blake Edwards' THE PARTY - a personal favourite. As a last suggestion, another comedy - IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD.

A few off the wall choices

The Cook, The thief, His Wife and her Lover
Heat (Michael Mann) - each scene is so carefully composed. It's one of the most beautifully composed films I have ever seen.
Almost Famous - just a personal favourite. I just fall into the scenery whenever I watch.

2001 has always been my favorite. (That's why it's attached to my initials for a user name.)

I also like BLADE RUNNER as a choice, and of course BARRY LYNDON.

One I haven't seen listed is FANTASIA. Pure visual cinema.

HUGO was a pretty amazing-looking movie as I recall, but I've only seen it once.

Just watched Delicatessen. It has a really cool rich almost sepia toned look to it.

Enter The Void is a psychedelic and beautiful mess of a film. The overhead shots are insane.

I don't think I have a bad-looking film on Blu-ray. Every one of them has made me say "wow."
